To date, on May 7, 2025, the long -awaited personality requirement is officially valid throughout the United States.
After many years of delay and expectation, travelers should show A valid driver’s licenseA real passport or another federal identification form for landing domestic flights or entering certain federal objects.
Fear of fulfillment led to packed DMV, long lines and great confusion in what is actually required, especially among retired military members.
Fred from Oklahoma summarized problems that many feel in a recent email.
“With the May 7 term, to all approach a true person’s certificate, it may come time to make a story about a possible impact on retired by the military. Back in April 2024, the story made many of us nervous or evil. Apparently, the TSA software has several TSA software. We have a retired ID that never ends.
“It was suggested that the TSA decision no longer made our ID as an alternative form of the real ID. It risks us because our ID allows us to access military installations, but we are not allowed to fly? In any case, there was no next article that says that the gluk was fixed or rejecting a radical solution.
Let’s break down what has changed, answer Fred’s question and we will see you how to get a true certificate if you still need.
The real certificate was adopted in 2005 to strengthen security standards for state IDs, following the recommendations of the commission on September 11. Since today, everyone who is 18 or older must show A valid driver’s license or state ID (Look for a star in the upper corner), a valid passport or other form of identification, approved by TSA, for the board of domestic flights or access to certain federal buildings. If you don’t have any of them, you may be reversed airport security even if you have used your current ID for years.

Good news for Fred and other retired servicemen: IDs allocated in defense, including common access cards, identification cards in form and old maps of pensioners and family, are still accepted by TSA for domestic Travel airline. These include cards with “Indef” (uncertain) expiration dates, despite past confusion and software failures.
However, travelers report random issues at some airports where the TSA system may incorrectly read the “Indef” date as ended. In these cases, TSA officers may ask for another acceptable ID form, such as a valid driver’s license that matches the identification or passport. If you do not have another ID, the chapter can revise your document and allow you to continue, but wait for possible delay.
The essence is that today the military pensioner and dependent identity certificates remain valid for the internal flight. If in the past you have experienced problems, reasonably, if possible, bring backup form.
How to minimize your digital trail while traveling
If you appear today at an airport with a standard driver’s license that does not match the valid ID, and you have no passport or other approved personality certificate, you may face a delay, additional examination or even refusal in the security checkpoint. TSA urges travelers to check their certificates before heading to the airport.
However, if you have a real world entry card, you do not need to receive a valid driver’s license that matches the ID to fly on the domestic level after May 7, 2025. Global admission map is the internal security department card (DHS), which meets federal identification standards and is obviously accepted as an alternative to real identification. This means that you can use your global entry card at TSA checkpoints to check your identity when flying in the US. Other trusted DHS travelers such as Nexus, Sentri and FAST are also taken as an alternative.
Important: Despite the fact that the world entry card is officially accepted, some travelers report the periodic confusion among TSA agents. To avoid delay, think about wearing an additional form of the person’s certificate, such as a US passport or passport.
Using your global entry card, you can bypass the need to visit DMV for a real identity certificate and still meet TSA identification requirements for domestic air travel.
