How to achieve career success in 2025 from a professor and author


According to data for October 2024, more than half, 56% of workers are looking for a new job or planning to do so in 2025. Resume template survey of 1,258 full-time American workers. One in three of them plan to quit their current job, even if they don’t have another one.

Whatever your career plans for 2025—whether you’re looking for a new gig, hoping for a promotion, or simply looking to improve your current position—there are steps you can take now to make progress.

Here are three tips from an organizational psychology professor and author of Likeable Badass Alison Freigale on how to set yourself up for success in 2025.

Define your goals

To get started, start by identifying what you would like to achieve in the new year – or even in a few years.

“We want to look forward into the future to a point that’s an achievement that we want to have,” Fregeil says, adding that it could be “you’ve built a product or you’ve launched a mentoring program.” an example. Anything you want you can put on your resume or whatever you would be proud of.

Then you want to work backwards and come up with some actionable steps to do this. In 2025, these steps will help you make choices when looking at your to-do list, Frageil says. “If everything is impossible to do, which of these things will motivate me the most to achieve these goals?”

Identify “three to five relationships” to help achieve them

Once you’ve figured out what you want to achieve, identify “three to five relationships that will help you achieve that goal,” Frageil says. These could be people who have built similar products or are in a position that you want to achieve, who you think could help you make that progress.

Then “start thinking about how you can add value to their lives in 2025,” she says. Can you help them with the project they are working on? Can you make a useful introduction? Can you share some new research that is relevant to their work? Helping them in the first place can transform your relationship into something more meaningful and reciprocated.

Try to contact them twice a year to maintain that relationship. That way, if and when they are finally able to help you, you’ll have that connection and have a natural opportunity to ask.
