How Sterling K. Brown helped bring Paradise and Washington Black to life

Sterling K. Brown uses his abundant career to help support new TV shows – including Paradise and Washington Black.

“Everything happens in divine timing – just when it is to be. That may not be exactly what you are hoping for but it is always what it is supposed to be,” Brown, 49, noted during a unique interview with Weekly US relating to Washington BlackRelease on Hulu.

“It’s a lovely story. It’s beautifully told and shot. “And seeing something with that level of breadth that has centralized (in it) gives me tremendous pride.”

While reflecting on his recent projects, Brown acknowledged his work behind and in front of The camera, adding, “In my capacity to be an active producer, if that helped get the story to find out then I hope to help get more stories like that told.”

Brown has remained ordered and busy since wrapping his time on NBC’s Here we are. Its latest show, Washington Blackoffer a chance to partner with Selwyn Seyfu Hinds To produce a television adaptation of Esi Edugyan’s novel of the same name.

The 2019 book follows George Washington Black (Eddie Karanja and Ernest Kingsley Jr.) Through past and present timelines as he is raised under the shadow of slavery before capturing the attention of the sugar plantation owner. “Medwin is a little mention in the book. We definitely extrapolated so I can get something to do,” said Brown Us of his character. “But it’s interesting to see the difference in mentorship that Wash has all his life and he moves to a place, ‘Oh, I don’t need a mentor. Anything I thought I needed from someone else I really have with myself.’ He then moves from mentorship to partnership.

“First of all, I feel like I’m a kind of sterling drag to be a mentor. I just asked him so many questions, like, ‘Hey man, how are you doing? It’s 1:00 am but I need your help,'” Kingsley Jr., who plays adult wash, did us. “It was natural, to be honest. It was built naturally.”
