“I think Bruiser is a great character to exchange sex for so many reasons. One, she’s much more powerful as a woman. The reason is that Bruiser – in the novel – is extremely, extremely shady and suspicious,” he only told US Weekly. “In the film version, Mickey Rourke portrays Bruiser, and that character is present in the beginning, but then goes on holiday and escapes to the Caribbean.”

“Rudy has multiple maternal figures (on the show), but Bruiser is the one that comes from a place of hard love. She is like her coach and mentor, who really pushes him to think outside the box,” Parrilla noted. “She actually has this great relationship with Rudy that I don’t think this character would be if Bruiser were male. It would have been an egos battle alone.”
He continued: “I feel she is much more effective as a woman and her influence with Rudy – but also in a court room. She’s a clever woman, sassi and ball balls that have a lot of street smarts and gravel for her. She’s a much more interesting version of Bruiser. Everyone’s version is great, but I really love that this character is going to be a woman.”
