In spite of Roseanne Barrabsence of The ConnersHer character was still ahead and in the middle of the final season.
Roseanne Originally broadcast on ABC between 1988 and 1997. After being briefly revived in 2018 – and after Barr’s exit eventually from the series in the heart of controversial social media jobs – Transformed the story into The Conners. The side effect was created without Barr’s involvement and has never made a appearance.
During The ConnersSeries Première in 2018, the family addressed Roseanne’s leave by revealing she died suddenly following surgery on the hen. They later realized that Roseanne’s death was due to an opioid overdose, which revealed her reliance on hidden drugs because of chronic pain.
“I can’t steal it, so I don’t (watch),” said Barr The Los Angeles Times In February 2023. “When they killed my character, that was my message, knowing that I was mentally ill or had mental health problems, that they wanted me to commit suicide.”
He continued: “They killed my character … and that was all thanks for bringing 28 million viewers, who have never had before and will never see them again. Because they can kiss my grandfather.”
Since then multiple cast members have weighed out how sixth term and last season The Conners pays tribute to characters who no longer get attention on the show.
“The end of the series shows the tribute of the way we could,” Emma Kenney she was told only Weekly US In March 2025. “We’ve had so many amazing guest stars and circular roles over the years. Everyone has been so fun and brought something different to the show.”
Aunt Costar A on the Kenney screen LECY GORANSON also spoken to Us about the character of Barr be brought up in the final chapters. “It’s a very interesting thing. (The idea of) when to raise her, how she has been through the series is when it seems right,” Goranson shared the same month. “There are touches of it without actually landing it and making it extremely heavy.”

During the Première of Season 6, Jackie (Laurie Metcalf) To raise a legal proceedings against the pharmaceutical company responsible for the opioids taken Roseanne. Asked for Dan’s (John Goodman) Help, but he was concerned at first. Even after a conversation with his wife now, Louise (Katey Sagal), And resistant.
It was only until Jackie did not have foundations to sue about Roseanne’s death that Dan stepped in.
The April 2025 episode marked Roseanne’s addiction timeline as Dan tried to remember the details.
“The doctor never cut her away – she continued to lift her dose because she still complained that it didn’t stop the pain,” explained Dan. “Then I found the extra pills she got from her friends. I knew she had friends, but I didn’t know they were exchanging pills like a bunch of San Francisco hippies.”
Dan admitted that he “thought she was made” with pills after her operation. “He would have appeared so to anyone,” he noted. Becky (Goranson) fired back, “You spin things however you need to make it sound like that.”
Eventually, the legal proceedings for Dan and Becky caused fighting. “I know that addiction was complicated, but there had to be a moment where someone could have done something to prevent the worst from happening,” Becky told her father in April 2025 episode. “Perhaps if someone had addiction before surgery, they would still have one left?”
He continued: “You were with her all day and all night. How could you not see that she is on something? Sometimes we want things to go away so we don’t have to deal with them.”
And agitated by his daughter’s insination. “She once told me that her head was stable that she was made with them,” he replied. “Where were you in all this? Oh, that’s fine. You were too busy with your own addiction to notice what’s going on with your mother. Keep your own side of the street clean. I’m not open to being charged.”
Eventually, the father-duo duo was able to work things out.
“If I hadn’t been drinking, I think I could have helped him,” he said, while Dan noted, “you couldn’t have helped him. We’re never going to lose the feeling that we could have done something more.”
