In Buffy The Vampire SlayerNatural disasters is one of the few threats that our title hero it is not Face when she is busy killing vampires, demons and other forces of darkness. However, one of its most memorable enemies appears to be inspired by two sets of volcanoes. In the Puff Episode “Inca Mummy Girl,” the Princess Inca in question is inspired by a mother found on a volcano in Peru, while the mountain god who insists that her sacrifice be inspired by another Peruvian volcano.
If you need a quick update, here’s: in “Inca Mummy Girl,” Buffy and the Scoobies have to deal with a mother who sucks a soul that sucks a sexual exchange student. The mother She has a pretty sad story about having her thrust into a life that she never asked about, but that didn’t change the fact that it was an existential threat to everyone in Sunnydale and beyond. Buffy and his crew had to stop her, but what they nor most fans realized is that this compelling character was based on the mother of Juanita, an Incan daughter whose body was discovered in 1995 on a dormant volcano Ampato.
This real -life mummy was discovered two years before Puff Première, and the “Inca Mummy Girl” portrayed the monster a week very sympathetic thanks to the body found in the volcano. Researchers decided that the girl was as young as 12 and sacrificed by her people as a way of appealing to the gods. In the episode, The Mummy Girl is a princess chosen by her people as a sacrifice … someone who would be willing to exchange her young life for other lives.
The killer is moved by his story, seeing the princess as a kind spirit whose life and death were eventually chosen by forces beyond his control. Interestingly, this Puff Episode never talks about the volcano himself or Juanita’s mother as inspiration for this memorable character. Because of this, fans may never guess that a second volcano helped to shape “Inca Mummy Girl” in one of the show’s better early episodes.
Although he never appears on the screen, “Inca Mummy Girl” talks about Sebancaya, an Incan mountainous god to whom the mother girl is supposed to be sacrificed. This character is based on Sabancaya, another volcano in Peru. Interestingly, while ampato is a dormant volcano, Sabancaya is vigorous One, which makes sense … after all, the volcanoes that can destroy everything around them who usually receive the greatest sacrifices from ancient people looking for relief.
One reason why fans love “Inca Mummy Girl” is that the villain is very different from the usual vamps and demons, one that our favorite characters can sympathize with but he must eventually stop. This Puff A villain is a bit like an active volcano himself: beautiful, majestic, and can go away and kill people without a hat. And given that this is a franchise that has included real gods like villains, we cannot help but wonder if the Incan gods are real in this universe and Buffy made powerful enemies that day through the dust of their princess.
That could be more of a threat than even the slayer can handle. But we can only guess how Buffy himself would respond: “If the lavapocalypse happens, be me.”
