Hoda Kotb Hope’s daughter’s health played in today’s departure

In an interview with People It was announced on Wednesday, May 28, Kotb, 60, revealed that hope has been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.

“She had shots – four or five a day – every day for a year. Now she gets them less often because we have some other way to get what she needs, but there’s a lot for him,” Kotb explains. “Some children can get sweets and she can’t. If it’s up at night, we have to take care of it in the evenings.”

Despite her health battles, Kotb said Hope was a “happy, healthy, fragile, amazing child, and we have to watch it.” He added, “Diabetes is a part of it, but not all of it. Hopefully it shapes it but never defines it.”

It’s like you can’t believe that your child is ill,” he shared in an interview with People. “You can’t believe that there is nothing you can do. You can’t believe, no matter what you do, you can’t give it away or protect it, or all the things we’re supposed to do as parents. And it’s a job I’ve never found myself in.”

Kotb told the outlet she didn’t want hope to “be labeled” because of her medical condition, noting, “She’s so vibrant, and most days everything is absolutely right. I don’t want people to look at it differently.”

Kotb noted that he would not “put my concern on (hope),” as it was “too much for a child to carry.” She also credited her family’s faith for being a sense of strength during their difficult time.

“I’m looking at her, and I think, ‘Wow, you bloomed into this amazing child who is as durable and with good tools for her whole life despite these things that have happened to her,'” Kotb said of her most. “She just shows when you have whatever she has inside her, this, this fighting, will do everything … she can withstand anything. This child is going to get the easiest adulthood because she has got a try hard early.”
