The road to the finals for the Aussies has not been as smooth as the Proteas but the Aussie team showed their mettle and earned their place the hardest way throughout the cycle. Australia critically needed to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to reach the WTC final and the former champions did just that by defeating India 3-1 in the series. Australia is still to play Sri Lanka in the current cycle.

India gets the third place in the current WTC cycle
The steep decline of the Indian team in the longest format of the game is evident not only from their performance in the recent series defeat against Australia, but also from the fact that two-time WTC runners-up India did not has managed to reach the end of the prestigious title and could only manage to reach number 3 in the standings.
India had played all their matches in the current cycle and with 9 wins and 8 losses only managed to accumulate 50 PCT points. A clean sweep against New Zealand and the recent 3-1 loss in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy had further hurt India’s prospects of going to the WTC final. The Kiwis are behind India in the league table with 48,210 PCT points followed by Sri Lanka, England, BangladeshPakistan and West Indies.
The 2025-27 Test World Championship cycle will begin in June this year as England take on India for a 5-match Test series at home.
