View: Main earthquake from Russia causes wide tsunami warnings

Many Hawaiians listened to the official advice to leave the coastal areas after a powerful earthquake for thousands of miles near Russia caused a tsunami warning in the US and other parts of the Pacific.

By Tuesday evening, the Tsunami Pacific Center stated that the waves in a few feet were recorded in Maui, Oahi and Hawaii, where Honolulul’s capital is located.

“Urgent measures should be taken to protect life and property,” the center called, adding that the danger could be kept for hours.

Governor Josh Green told the people in the lowland areas to stay calm and move to the highest land, but later struck a reliable tone, saying that the state still had to see the “wave of consequences”.

He noted that the roads were busy when people evacuated their homes.

The residents of Maui, who was devastated by forest fires two years ago, were among those who moved to the higher land.

Other parts of the west coast of the United States – including California and Alaska – produce their own preparations, being under a smaller consultant with a tsunami from the National Tsunami Center (NTWC).

NTWC warning means wide floods are expected either happening, while the advisory value indicates that there is a potential for strong current and waves that can be dangerous.

Seismologist, D -R Lucy Jones, believed that waves could damage the harbor and the waterfront properties in Hawaii – and perhaps in California – but they would not lead to a catastrophic loss of life in America.

The highest waves can be a few feet in Hawaii, D -Rz Jones noted, but for comparison, they reached 42 feet (13 m) during fatal tsunami in Japan in 2011.

BBC interview moment interrupted by siren tsunami

But many Hawaiians do not risk.

David Dorn told BBC Taht that he was not an unfamiliar warning tsunami by living in a quarter from the ocean in the coastal city of Kiegei, on Maui, 30 years. But he and his wife treated it differently.

“We try to treat them seriously, but most people like them are a little easy,” he said of the sirens warnings that have been heard since the first warning was issued.

He and his wife evacuated to the higher land and planned to spend the night in his minibus at the internal mall.

Mr. Dorn said he had transported the electronics to the attic before leaving the house, hoping that even if sea water penetrates the building, he would not reach the rafters.

Its greatest problem was the movement, especially when the electrical pillars fell and blocked the roads.

“The traffic is always a problem and it worsens. And this is the worst in any emergency,” he said.

Another resident of Maui, Roger Plezanton, said the BBC that the movement was “like New York now”.

“I was going to go to the grocery store, but I think I may have to miss the products and get out of here,” he added.

When Maui was preparing for the arrival of the waves, shelters were opened, and the water supply was disabled to protect them from possible damage.

10 years have passed since Felius Johnson, a lifetime resident of the island, last fled with a tsunami. Late on Tuesday, she turned again, moving to the Higher Earth.

47 -year -old Ms Johnson watched the water level receded, and then rises significantly – describing the sample, usually noticed with a tsunami.

“It’s awful,” she exclaimed, packed her truck to sleep with her family and friends in the mountains.

She compared the situation with a fire that came to Lahin two years ago, destroying the island and its community.

“Everything I can do is leave the house. I’m leaving, so I’m definitely going through what -goes. But I mean what you can cry?

“We survived it with fires, and there was no warning, and it was just so devastating. Now we have so much warning that if we don’t go, it’s our fault.”
