Harry Potter’s screw, bring back animations

There is a new Harry Potter TV series that is starting to produce and anyone excited about that is a non -trusted trumpet. There is no reasonable reason to like Harry Potter anymore, but Warner Bros. determined to milk that cash cow no matter the fact that the franchise is bankrupt in many ways.

Instead, it now feels like the right time to give money to regenerate a different young adult series: Animation.

War is hell, children

To those who don’t know, Animation is the story of an alien Earth’s invasion by parasitic beings called Yeerks. A dying alien gives a group of children shape change powers so that they can fight the invasion and save their planet from humiliation.

It’s nothing special in terms of the essentials of the default, but in the character and intensity of the story Animation finds their power. Across a series spanning over sixty books, the author Ka Applegate (and his spirit writers) weaves a story of the hardness of war -time that gave many young readers their first tastes of cruel storytelling.

And the cruelty during that war that feels much more vital to young audiences today than Wankery fantasy school preparing another Harry Potter effort. While rough and dark elements are certainly in the story of Harry Potter, they do not actually reflect the core mission of that series that escape to the elite secret society of people who are better than the rest of us.

Give children tough heroes

Animation Isn’t that. Although the main characters of that series have powers that they must keep secret, their revelation to the truths of the world does not afford some upgrade to them in their lives. On the contrary as Animation is a story of children’s soldiers who are forced to fight war or face domination.

As such, there are choices that the characters have to do that actually challenge their moral centers and they do not always succeed. Harry Potter rarely steps to this level of complexity with his characters, and it certainly seems that today’s children/young people could use a story that has them to see more complex perspectives than those in the Potterverse.

Do something right this time

A big reason that Harry Potter’s new series can apparate to the center of the sun is because it is something that has already been done successfully. I’m sure book fans will be comping on the passage to make boring, derivative and spirit Youtube Videos are about how this new series does something of the books that did not do the movies, but if that’s the only way you evaluate art, you should also appeal to the center of the sun.

In the meantime, Animation which was turned into a series for two seasons but could not give it due to the subject material. In post-Strangers world, there is a much more welcoming audience for Animation in all his horrific glory.

Those Harry Potter movies made their mark on pop culture in a significant way. It is very unlikely that the new HBO series will even come close to that kind of cultural footprint. So why not do something like Animation That has a better chance of being a definitive adaptation like those Harry Potter movies?

I was brought up during Harry Potter’s cultural overthrow. I read all the books, I saw all the films, and I’ve been to the world theme park many times. I have given JK Rowling more than my fair share of money and her wizard entertainment franchise, and enjoyed my time with the series back when I was younger.

But it’s time to throw that baby out with the bath water and let something else get a chance at the spotlight. Make it Animation.
