A high Palestinian official, acquainted with negotiations on the ceasefire of Israel-Homas, said the BBC that Qatar and Egyptian mediators suggested a new formula to stop the war in Gaza.
According to the official, it provides a truce, which lasts from five to seven years, the release of all Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli prisons, the official end of the war and the full Israeli exit from Gaza.
The senior Hamas delegation was supposed to arrive in Cairo for consultations.
The last ceasefire fell apart a month ago when Israel resumed gas bombing, and both sides accuse each other for failing to continue it.
Israel did not commented on the mediators’ plan.
Hamas will be presented at the discussions in Cairo by the head of his political council, Mohammed Darwish and his leading negotiation, Khali Al-Haji.
This happens a few days after the movement rejected the last supply of Israel, which included the demand for Hamas in return for a six -week truce.
On Saturday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he would not end the war before Hamas would be destroyed and all hostages have returned. Hamas demanded from Israel to end the war before the hostage release.
The Palestinian official, acquainted with the negotiations, told the BBC that Hamas mentioned his willingness to convey the gas management of any Palestinian essence, agreed “at the national and regional level”. The official stated that this could be the Palestinian administration of the Western Bank (PA) or the recently created administrative body.
Netanyahu has ruled out any role in the future gas management, which Hamas has ruled since 2007.
Although it is too early to evaluate the likelihood of success, the source described the current efforts as serious, and said that Hamas showed “unprecedented flexibility”.
On October 7, 2023, Hamas attacked Israel, killed about 1,200 people – mostly civilians – and returned to Gas 251. In response, Israel launched a large -scale military offensive, which killed 51 240 Palestinians – mostly civilians – according to the Ministry of Health Hamas Gaza.
Elsewhere, the Palestinian Embassy in Cairo instructed its employees – who coordinated medical evacuation from Gaza to Egyptian hospitals and facilitated humanitarian aid – to move with its families to the Egyptian city of arrest, near the gas border.
