US Vice President J. D. Vnes accused Denmark of calling on Denmark to Greenland when he called on a “partner” from the United States.
Speaking during a visit to the Arctic Island, Vnes said he hoped that the Greenlanders would vote for independence from Denmark, which he said had not been sufficient to protect the semi -automatic territory.
Vens claims that his ally Denmark “did not do good work” in defense of Greenland, comes after repeated US threats to seize the island.
As also The vast majority Greenland opposed the idea of annexation in January. Prime Minister Greenland said the US visit showed a “lack of respect”.
And the king of Denmark Frederick also rejected the US plan.
“We live in changed reality,” said the monarch on social media on Friday.
“There should be no doubt that my love for Greenland and my connection with Greenland residents are intact.”
On Friday, a visit to the Pituffik space base, a missile defense institution on a remote north, Vnes said at a press conference that Russia, China and other countries are taking “extraordinary interest” on routes and minerals in the region.
57,000 people contain large unused mineral and oil reserves on the island.
The vice president said there were no immediate plans to expand US military presence on Earth, but would have invested more resources, including naval ships and military icebreakers.
“Our message is very simple,” Vnes said.
“You have not done a good job of Greenland residents. You have not invested enough for Greenland residents, and you are not enough investment in the security architecture of this incredible, beautiful land.”
He also said that Denmark was unable to “preserve Greenland residents from many very aggressive invasions from Russia, China and other countries,” not giving additional details.
The vice president said Greenland residents would be “self-determination” and the US will respect its sovereignty.
“We hope that they have decided to cooperate with the United States because we are the only nation on Earth, which respects their sovereignty and respects their safety because their safety is our safety,” he said.
His wife, Second Lady Usha Vens, US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and Energy Minister Chris Wright joined Vens.
The external temperature in Pituffik was -3f (-19 C).
Initially, the American lady was from a trip to Greenland only with his son to attend a dog race in the city of Sisimut.
But after several protests were planned, the visit to Sisimut was canceled and replaced only with a stop at the military base.
Returning to the White House, President Donald Trump insisted that the US need Greenland to guarantee the “world world”, and that “Chinese and Russian ships is everywhere in its waterways.
“We need Greenland, it is very important for international security,” he said.
“We must have Greenland. This is not the question:” Do you think we can do without? ” “We can’t.”
He said that Denmark and the European Union understood the situation, “and if he did not, we would have to explain it.”
In a statement by the BBC, Prime Minister of Denmark Mette Frederixen accepted the question with Vnes’ comments.
“For many years we stood near the Americans in very difficult situations,” she said. “That is why the vice president is not the exact way to refer to Denmark.”
She said that Denmark significantly increased the cost of defense, but to further increase her investment with greater supervision, new arctic ships, long -range drones and satellite capacity.
“We are ready-day and night-work with the Americans,” she said. “Cooperation that should be based on the necessary international game rules.”
The new Prime Minister Greenland, Jensa Frederick Nielsen, said Vens’ visit that “there is not enough respect for the Greenland people.”
In the capital of Greenland, some people with whom the BBC spoke were not conquered by the United States.
At the Cultural Center in the city artist Kartline Pulnsen said: “There are many ways to say everything. But I think President Trump says it’s not.”
A woman who called her name only, as Nina said, “I’m concerned (about a visit). It’s weird I don’t like it.”
Her daughter Anita said the visit caused “a lot of uncertainty, and many people are worried.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that he considered Trump’s plans for Greenland “serious”.
He expressed concern that “NATO countries are usually increasingly denoting a bridgehead for possible conflicts.”
