Guy Pearce reflects on his relationship with an ex-wife Kate Mestitz.
“My ex-wife, Kate, was the love of my life, but I’ve moved on from her now and the love of my life is my child, Monte,” Pearce, 57, said in an interview with The Guardian published on Saturday, January 18, referring to his son whom he shares with his girlfriend Carice van Houten.
Opening up about his “biggest disappointment,” Pearce said he “felt like I messed up my marriage.” He added, “I don’t feel that way anymore, but at the time I was disappointed.”
Pearce and Mestitz, 58, met in 1980 when they attended Geelong College and tied the knot in 1997. In January 2015, the couple split they had parted ways.
“The rumors are true I’m afraid – Kate and I parted ways back in January,” Pearce wrote via X at the time. “Sorry 2, to be boring but we couldn’t be closer. We will love each other 4 forever xx.”
Pearce later released a statement, confirming the end of their marriage. “Kate and I will always love and support each other and be best friends,” she said. “Nobody knows me like Kate, and we will forever cherish our mutual respect. We have both grown tremendously through our relationship, but unfortunately, the time has come to half way.”
Pearce also shared images of Mestitz, with one he captioned, “The best 20+ years of my life – with this beautiful woman…”
Pearce has since pursued a relationship with van Houten, 48, with whom Monte welcomed in 2016. The couple currently lives in the Netherlands.
“He arrived in a cute little package and told us his name, Monte Pearce. We think we’re going to keep it. Placenta smoothie anyone?” Pearce wrote through X in 2016, tagged the Game of Thrones an actress.
In the years since Monte’s arrival, Pearce has been candid about being a father. “After Monte was born, someone said to me, ‘You do realize that you now live with your heart on the outside?’ And it’s really true, isn’t it?,” said Pearce The Independents in an interview in 2021. “When I started acting, I knew if I needed to cry it could come out easily. Then after 15 years of therapy, I became a much calmer and more contented human being, but trying to cry in a scene became impossible. But since having my boy, I cry at the drop of a hat again.”
