Pep Guardiola granted that Manchester City struggles to adapt to changes to his squad after seeing his team succumb to the second return to Brighton and Hove Albion.
After being hit by 2-0 at home for Tottenham last week, City seemed to be rebounded again when Erling Haaraland put them in the 34th minute.
Haaland marked his 100th appearance at the Premier League with his 88th goal in the division, although the city could not add to his leadership despite dictating the game.
And they were punished in the 67th minute when James Milner equalized the penalty site against his former club after Matheus Nunes was governed by being manipulated in the area.
The city never regained control and were sentenced to a second successive defeat for a minute from the end of normality, when Brajan Gruda rounded James Trafford and threw the winner in Brighton.
There have been several additions to the city staff into the transfer window, with Trafford, Rayan Ait-Noururi and Tijjani Reijnders in the initial 11th in Brighton. Rayan Cherki was not included in the template.
And Guardiola suggested that his team continues to fight for ice, as they go to the international pause with only three points of nine games.
“We recognize the target and then changed,” Guardiola told Sky Sports after the 2-1 defeat.
“Until then it was really, really good, we had possibilities and the team seemed aggressive and dynamic. We had a good time and, after the last half hour, we were not well. We forgot to pass the ball, we only played for long balls and we were not well enough. That’s what it is.
“ Erling is our great threat, but in general we had a good time and after recognizing the goal, a bit like Tottenham, we admit and everywhere we do not continue to do what we have to do. It can happen, you still have time because it is possible to grant the Premier League. They, of course, everyone does the replacements to improve and they did well, but everything changed after the goal.
“We have a very good workforce and, of course, we have changed a lot of things for now, which is normal, we need new players to adapt to us and we need the older ones to help them face them.”
Rodri started his first start in 11 months in the city after the serious knee injury he suffered last September.
Guardiola was pleased with the screen produced by last year’s Gold Ballon, and he hopes that the clarity provided at the end of the transfer window, which will be closed for the Premier League Monday, will help his workforce improve in the coming weeks.
“Rodri performed a very good performance and is a superior character,” added Guardiola. “Happy played 90 minutes and I would say he could deal with his National Team and after starting the season.
“I like a lot of things we are doing and when we return we know the workforce we will have and we will try to compete.”
