The opposition on the right of Greenland won its general elections, almost complete results, in the vote, where the promise of US President Donald Trump is dominated by the autonomous territory of Denmark.
The Demokraatit party – with more than 90% of the ballots on Tuesday, which contributes to the gradual approach to independence – receives almost 30% of the vote, the election officials say.
NALERAQ, another opposition party that wants to immediately clean the Copenhagen divorce and have closer ties with the US, conduct a survey of approximately 25%.
Prime Minister Mute B Egege’s ATAQatigiit (IA) – also the -no -dependence party – third of more than 21%.
Greenland is the largest island in the world, between the Arctic and the Atlantic Ocean – was controlled by Denmark, almost 3,000 km (1860 miles), about 300 years.
Greenland regulates its own internal affairs, but foreign and defense policy decisions are made in Copenhagen.
About 44,000 Greenlanders from the 57,000 population were entitled to votes to select 31 deputies as well as local authorities. Six parties were on the newsletter.
The SIUMUT Party is a partner of Egeda in the current left ruling coalition, conducting a fourth poll with almost 15% of the vote.
The other two parties are far behind, and Atassut is 7%, and Qulleq is just over 1%.
Voting took place at 72 polling stations scattered along a large island.
Greenland’s strategic location and unused mineral resources came into Trump’s eyes. He first sailed the idea of buying the island during his first term in 2019.
Since his post in January, Trump reaffirmed his intention to acquire the territory.
“We need Greenland for national security. One way or another we will get it,” he said during his US Congress last week.
Greenland and Denmark leaders have repeatedly abandoned their demands.
Eged made it clear that Greenland is not sold and deserves to “treat”.
