A high delegation of US officials will hold on Friday at a remote military base in Greenland, which is considered as the last manifestation of American designs in a sparsely populated semi -automatic Danish territory.
The American Group includes Vice President JD Vance and his Was’ wife, White House National Security Advisers Michael Waltz, Energy Secretary Chris Wright and Republican Senator Mike Lee from Utah.
The trip notes the last turn is that it became a confusing diplomatic journey, which began with what was originally exhibited as a private tour of the American Second Lady.
Usha Vens only had to go to Greenland with his son to attend cultural events, such as a dog race, and to spend some time to visit the capital Nuuk.
However, the planned visit raised his eyebrows in the light of the repeated comments of President Donald Trump that he would like to attach, rich in Greenland minerals, which, he said, is crucial for US security.
When it was then announced that the waltz, the Trump national security adviser, join the delegation, visiting the island, the residents of Greenland and Denmark, it seemed uncomfortable. US visits began to look less than cultural interaction and more like efforts to interfere in the island’s domestic policy, racing support for closer ties with the US among the local population – at the expense of Danish sovereignty.
Acting Prime Minister Greenland Mute B Egege said it was a “provocation” and a “demonstration of power” and asked the international community to step up.
“Only for the recording, the Greenland government did not distribute any invitations to any visits, no private or official,” Aege said.
Ordinary Greenland also made their displeasure, promising that the American delegation will not receive a warm reception.
In Sisimut, where the annual dog race is held, the mayor refused to create a meeting with the second lady, citing municipal elections next week as a reason. A silent protest was also planned to see that the locals are returning to US visitors – a potentially public situation and a bad optics for Mrs. Vnes.
“The US administration has seen that they were heading for a PR disaster,” said Noah Radington Political Analyst.
“They headed for an enchanted offensive without charm,” he said. “With people is absolutely not happy to see Usha Vens or any other American politicians.”
Two days after Usha Vens’s trip was announced, the cultural route was dropped, replaced by one visit to a remote military installation in the USA – the Pituffik space base. And now Vens Vens would have joined his wife.
Waltz was no longer put in the route, though it was again added later.
“Leaders both in America and in Denmark, I think, has ignored Greenland too long,” J. said. D. Vens, announcing your visit. “It was bad for Greenland. It was also bad for the safety of the world. We think we can take things in the other direction.”
Despite their comments, political leaders in Denmark carefully welcomed the change of the plan, and especially the route limit to the US base.
Denmark’s Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen said while the Vice-President’s presence could increase the formality of the visit, this is actually a “skillful spin” that made the United States “look the way they grow when they actually decorate.”
“I actually believe that it is very confident that the Americans cancel their visit to the Greenland community. Then they will visit their own base instead, and we have nothing against it,” he said.
Vens-Sami is a high-ranking American official who has ever visited Greenland, and while the limited travel sphere pleases Denmark, the fact that he goes in, emphasizes the high level of interest of the Trump administration on the island.
The US president himself continued to confirm his desire to acquire Greenland for national security reasons, saying that the United States will “go as far as we should” on Wednesday to achieve this.
According to Michael Williams, Professor of International University Ottawa University, Trump’s orientation to Greenland reflects a broader international strategy that provides for influence on key territories in the field of geographical influence.
Canada and Greenland, as early targets of interest to the administration, occupy key arctic waterways that are disputed by other global states such as Russia and China.
Latest moves in the US can be seen as an attempt to get prevalence in these strategic regions of North Americans.
“You want to strengthen the presence of Americans in the north and its control over these northern achievements,” Williams said.
“If you can do this, you can actually potentially control these northern water, much more straightforward than if -it was necessary earlier.”
Attempts to over -state influence the less powerful peoples that repeat the Cold War when the US and the Soviet Union faced global ideological competition.
But the focus of these efforts was not usually leveled by states, not closest allies and neighbors in America.
While the Vances’ trip to Greenland can be scaled back, the large structures of America on the island seem to have not diminished. Any sigh of relief in Copenhagen may be short -lived.
Vnes’ visit to the Pituffik space base offers a narrower emphasis on US security and military matters. The shortest route for Russian nuclear missiles to get to the US goes through Greenland, and Pitfik plays a decisive role in defending US missiles.
“I am sure he will say that Greenland’s security is not safe in Denmark,” Redington said, adding that it “exerts even greater pressure on the Danish government.”
“This is absolutely nothing. This is the beginning of something even more complicated than before.”
