Jack Grealish and Jordan Pickford were the heroes, as Everton celebrated the opening of their new Hill Dickinson Stadium with a victory over Brighton this afternoon.
Grealish, who joined the Toffees on Manchester City 12 days ago, created the two goals in his home debut, while Pickford made a series of significant savings, including -a Danny Welbeck penalty stop, to see Everton at home.
Iliman Ndiaye won the distinction of turning the new stadium’s first scorer – He also took Everton’s last goal at Goodison Park – with James Garner adding a second, as Brighton ruined the inability to turn his numerous opportunities.
The victory was very necessary for the house, who started his campaign with a 1-0 defeat in Leeds on Monday night.
They mounted luck in the first half, with Brighton with a dangerous appearance every time they were presented.
Kaoru Mitoma had his first serious opportunity after 17 minutes, passing to a long ball that caused uncertainty for James Tarkowski.
International Japan smartly lifted the rebound ball over Tarkowski’s head, and then shot into a volley that cut the Pickford bar on the road.
Makeshift left, Garner, struggled to contain Yankuba Minheh and the Gambia escaped from her clutch a minute later, but her low cross was behind Welbeck and the former man in England could only get his shot from six meters.
Everton struggled to leave, but when they did so he gave rise to the opening goal.
Ndiaye started and finished the movement with a great play in the midfield and then re -entered the box in the left -wing center of Volea.
Brighton continued to push, but his luck remained outside. Jan Paul Van Hecke crashed against the post -post -post, while Pickford had to dig in Tarkowski after a nasty pass played Matt O’ryle. O’Riley pushed the ball to Pickford, but the International of England did it excellently to lift and keep the shot.
Everton doubled his advantage in four minutes in the second half, and Grealish put the ball again for Garner to make a driving ahead of Bart Verbruggen from 20 meters.
Minheh continued to cause problems and was his shot that caused the penalty with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, which was awarded for being handled.
Welbeck increased, but never seemed convincing and his weak shot on the left of Pickford was easily ravaged.
Substitute Beto should have achieved three for Everton, but the bustling celebrations of the final whistle did not have long.
