Glenn Phillips reveals a clash with Captain GT

New Zealand All-Rounder, Glenn Phillips, shared a rampant exchange with the Indian Blear Shubman Gill during the ICC 2025 Champions Trophy. Phillips recalled that Gill asked him about having a problem with players who used the MRF bat in front of the IPL 2025 crash between Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings.

Glenn Phillips made headlines for his exceptional field during the 2025 Champions League trophy. He took impressive catches, including dismissing Kohli in the group stage and Shubman Gill in the final, which attracted the attention of fans and experts. However, black caps lost the final against India.

Shubman Gill has a great sense of humor: Glenn Phillips

Shubman Gill, who had just used to use an MRF bat before the final, asked Glenn Phillips if he had a problem with MRF bats. Phillips called Gill Humble with a great sense of humor. He added that it was great to share the same team instead of seeing whenever Gill scored against him.

“What he told me was: What is your problem with MRF bats? It seems that someone with an MRF bat seems to hit you directly and you will not leave them,” said Phillips.

“So yes, he has a great sense of humor. We had a good thread at the team dinner on the other night. It’s great to meet him personally and be on his team, and rather, seeing the score runs against us all the time. He is a really descending boy, very nice to be around.”

Is completely opposite: Glenn Phillips

Phillips praised Shubman Gill for his leadership qualities. He said that Gill is humble and treats everyone alike. Phillips added that Gill is always open to conversations, making him an excellent leader.

“He has a great profile and personality from an entertainment perspective. But, as is the fully opposite person. He is incredibly welcoming, his door is always open to a chat for everyone. He treats everyone equally and has all the badges of a great leader,” said Phillips.

Hopefully we are in shape this year – Glenn Phillips

Glenn Phillips supported Shubman Gill to first guide Gujarat titans to IPL playoffs. Phillips emphasized that Gujarat had the first two outstanding seasons and waited for a strong comeback in 2025.

“The way they played in the first two years of the team’s adventure was fantastic, they were in shape, it was impressive, and we hope that this year we are in shape. I don’t think it has anything to do with the way Shubman or the pressure under him. You know, play in India. As if you don’t have much more pressure than this,” he added.

Gujarat Titans will begin their IPL 2025 campaign against Punjab Kings on March 25 in Ahmedabad. The franchise was successful in its debut season, winning the IPL title in 2022 under Hardik Pandya. They also ended up as runners -up in 2023.

However, Shubman Gill assumed the captain for the 2024 season, with GT managing only five wins in 12 games and finished eighth at the point table.
