Former New Zealand, Simon Doull, has advised Punjab Kings (PBKs), Shreyas Iyer and coach Ricky Ponting to drop Glenn Maxwell for the next game IPL 2025. Doull said that team leadership should include Azmatullah Omarzai or Josh Inglis against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
Punjab Kings will face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh on April 15. The team led by Shreyas Iyer will be looking to bounce after a strong loss in Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), where they did not defend a 246 goal in Hyfebad.
Punjab Kings has won three of the five games in the IPL 2025 season. Glenn Maxwell has struggled to have an impact so far on the tournament. The Australian Tot has failed to deliver with the bat, reaching only 34 runs in four entrances with an average of 8.50 and a strike rate of 109.68.
Recorded scores of 0, 30, 1 and 3. The batter on the right marked a 30 blow to Rajasthan Royals, but it had no fluency. With the ball, he took three doctors, but his general performances were disappointing. The team management still has to make a final decision on its exclusion.
Simon Doull said that Punjab Kings should consider giving Glenn Maxwell and giving opportunities to Azmatullah Omarzai or Josh Inglis. New Zealand’s old Pealer said that Maxwell has not justified his place on the team.
“I think Maxwell has had his career. I mean, the way he comes out right now, I would be frustrated as a coach,” DOULL told Cricbuzz.
“I think this is disappointing, from his point of view. So Omarzai is for him, English in him, would be something he would probably look at,” he added.
The kings of Punjab are likely to be without Pacler Lockie Ferguson for the rest of the IPL 2025 after he collected an injury during the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad. New Zealand turned only two deliveries before leaving the field.
Simon Doull said that Ferguson’s unavailability could have affected the result of this party. He said that Punjab had to trust bowls like Marcus Stoinis.
“A great loss for them in Lockie Ferguson. He threw two balls in this game. Remember -now, he could have made a big difference in persecution.
“So now it’s out, I’m not sure of time, so you leave a little hole in your genuine bowling options,” he added.
