Heuermann and Ellerup were married for nearly three decades when he was arrested in 2023 after How many cases of missing people include several women – including Megan Waterman, Melissa Barthelemy, Amber Costello and Maureen Brainard-Barnes – gone unresolved for more than a decade. Heuermann was charged in connection with the deaths of Barthelemy, Costello, Waterman and Brainard-Barnes and later with deaths Sandra Costilla, Jessica Taylor and Valerie Mack.
After his arrest, Heuermann pleaded not guilty to all charges. His family, including his children, supported him in public.
“We were both married for 27 years. I met Rex when I was 18. He’s the kind of guy you turn your head and you’re going to look at. He was a tall and handsome young man. I love tall, dark and handsome,” Remembered Ellerup on tHe Gilgo Beach Killer: House of Secrets In June 2025. “At that time, I was crazy in love with the man. There is no doubt about that.”

Heuermann and Ellerup met when she was 18 but did not start dating until later. Instead, Ellerup exchanged vows with Christopher Sheridan, and also expanded their family with a son called Christopher.
Ellerup contacted Heuermann In the midst of her divorce from Sheridan.
“I met my first husband and got married. But things didn’t go well at all. After my son, Christopher, was born, my ex-husband became a completely different person. I was in the process of getting divorced,” Ellerup remembered Ellerup at Doc Peacock 2025. “Christopher’s father, he wasn’t very nice about it. else. ”
Ellerup was grateful for Heuermann, adding, “Rex was the kind of person you could call. We were friends. Rex was standing there and heard what he said. Then Rex says, ‘Okay, I’m not worried. Let’s have a lawyer and let’s take him to court.’ Then he paid the lawyer to take him to court.
After ending her marriage to Sheridan, Ellerup started a hurricane romance with Heuermann.
“There was no reason to hold back. So Rex told me, ‘I have a nice house. It’s not big and not elaborating. But what about you came to see if you would like to stay there?’ He explained in the Gilgo Beach Killer: House of Secrets. “I then discovered I was pregnant with Victoria. He said to me, ‘Well, how do you feel about me?’ I said yes. I have a picture on the day of our wedding and I’m looking up going, I finally got him. He is mine. ‘”
Ellerup gave birth to her and Heuermann’s daughter, Victoria. The family lived in Heuermann’s childhood home in Long Island.
Heuermann was arrested in 2023 and charged for murdering seven women. Ellerup defended her husband at the time but filed for divorce a week after He was accused of being Gilgo Beach Murder.

“That’s why I’m going to court. That’s why I want to see it for myself. It’s important for me to know what it’s going through. I want to be a part of it,” Shared Ellerup in the Peacock Dock three parts. “I really liked to see him. There was comfort in seeing him.”
He continued: “I don’t see it so. That’s not the Rex I know. If they are going to sit there and tell me that it was only during this particular period on holiday, then I would have to question that. If a man is so much genius he can do – I don’t believe.”

“I talk to him all the time, but he only has some time to be able to make calls,” he told the producers. “So I can’t get too comfortable talking to him about things that go to him hurt.… As, telling him I love him. That will hurt him.”
Ellerup used the docuseries to defend her husband, saying, “No one deserves what they had. But Rex didn’t see (sex workers).
At the time Ellerup questioned the Evidence against Heuermann.
“They claim that my husband managed to go to work, beg sex by a sex worker, sit on a train and then come home to make plans to pick them up, kill and dump them. Then he turned around to go to Atlantic City to come and see us? I’m sorry. He’s bulls ***, ‘” he fired back. “He has never told me, ‘Don’t use my computer.’ He has never said, ‘No, I’m not going to give you the password.’ There is nothing off Rex.
Upon reaching a divorce settlement, Ellerup confirmed that she was moving out of their home in Massapequa Park.
“Now that this life in this house is coming to an end, it makes me feel like a fresh start,” he shared at the end of the peacock dock. “What will that life be like, I don’t know. I’ll eventually find out. I’ll deal with it the best I can. I did what I had to do to defend myself and my children.”
Ellerup and Heuermann’s daughter, Victoria, leaned in on the reason for their legal division, adding, “I understand why she divorced my father. They made the divorce to protect the assets,” Victoria claimed. “She is now legal her house. She was married to him so she gets the asset from the divorce. If we lost the house, we would be homeless. It is our house. It does not mean that we are no longer a family.”
