Ghana’s defense and environmental ministers were killed in a military helicopter disaster in the Central Osenti region, as well as six other people, the government’s press.
Chief of Staff Julius Debra said at a press conference that Defense Minister Edward Oman and Minister for Environment, Science and Technology and Ibrahm Murtall, Muhammad 50, was killed as a result of the catastrophe, which he called the “national tragedy”.
Earlier, Ghana’s armed forces said the plane, which was transporting three crews and five passengers, had gone “from the radar”.
He flew from the capital, Ak, at 09:12 local time (and GMT) and went to the city city of Obuasi for a national event.
Authorities did not confirm the cause of the disaster.
The Chief of Staff sent the country’s flags for six months.
He expressed his condolences to the “military who died in the country” on behalf of President John Dramai Maham and the government.
The Deputy Coordinator of the National Security Ghana and former Agriculture Minister Alhagi Munira Mohammed was also among the dead, as well as Samuel Sarpong, vice-chairman of the National Democratic Congress party.
