The German Collection Service defended the decision to classify the alternative party Für Deutschland (AFD) as the right extremist, after sharp criticism from the White House.
US Vice President J. D. Vnes accused “bureaucrats” of restoring the Berlin wall, and Secretary of State Mark Rubio crashed like “Mask Tyranny”.
In an unusual step, the foreign service directly replied Rubio on X, writing: “We learned from our history that right extremism should be stopped.”
The intelligence agency, which forced the classification, revealed “a prevailing understanding of people on the basis of ethnicity and origin”, is against the “free democratic order” of Germany.
AFR finished second in the federal election in February, winning a record 152 places in the parliament of 630 seats out of 20.8%.
Bundesamt Für Verfassungsschutz (BFV) has already called AFD as the right extremist in the three Eastern states, where its popularity is the highest. Now this designation has been widespread throughout the party.
AFD “seeks to exclude some population groups from equal involvement in society”, this said in a statement. The agency stated that specifically that the party did not consider citizens “from Muslim countries” as equal members of the German people.
Joint party leaders Alice Weidel and Tina Khrupal stated that the decision was “clearly politically motivated” and “a strong blow to German democracy”.
Beatrix von Storch, deputy parliamentary leader of the party, told the Newshour BBC program that the designation was “how the authoritarian state, the dictatorship, treated their parties.”
The new classification gives the authorities great powers to monitor AFD using tactics such as telephone interceptions and secret agents.
“It is not democracy – it’s a spike of tyranny,” Mark Rubio wrote on X.
But the German foreign cabinet hit back.
“This is democracy,” it is written, directly responding to the politician’s account.
The report said the decision was made after a “careful and independent investigation” and could be appealed.
“We have learned from our history that we need to stop right -wing extremism,” the statement said, “the link to the Nazi Party of Hitler and the Holocaust.
JD Vance, who met Weidel in Munich, nine days before the election and used a speech at the Munich Security Conference to show UDD support, said the Bureau tried to destroy the party.
“The West tore together the Berlin Wall. And it was restored – not the Soviets and the Russians, but the German institution,” he wrote on X.
The Berlin Wall, built in 1961, separated the East and West Berlin for almost 30 years during the Cold War.
The new designation provoked calls for the AFD ban before the vote next week in the parliament or the Bundestag to confirm the conservative leader Friedrich Merz as the chancellor. It will manage a coalition with the left-wing Social Democrats (SPD).
Lars Klingbel, the leader of the SPD, who is expected to become the Vice-Chancellor and the Minister of Finance, said that while a hasty decision would not be made, the government considers the ban on AUD.
