Mario ‘El Azteca’ Barrios, a World Champion of Heavy Weight of the WBC, 29-2-1, of San Antonio, Texas, is negotiating a defense of the title against Pacquiao in June or July.
Barrios had his last defense in November 2024, ending in a tie divided with Abel Ramos, 28-6-2, to AT&T Stadium, Arlington, Texas. It was also the previous attack of Ramos. What seemed like a resale was not developed.
The last struggle of Pacquiao was in August 2021, losing before Yordenis Ugas, 26-4, in T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada. In September 2023, Ugas lost to Barrios for the heavy weight title of WBC in T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada.
Foreman, at the time 72-4, is still the record as the oldest to win a worldwide title at the age of 45, eliminating the World Heavy Weight Champion at Ibf Michael ‘Moorer, 35-0, at MGM Grand, Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, snowfall.
The only other boxer who won a world title in 40 or more was “Ruby” Bob Fitzimmons at the age of 40. He defeated George Gardner, 38-4-3, more than 20 rounds, in the Mechanics Pavilion, San Francisco, California.
Will the “Pac Man” become the third, not only to win a world title of more than 40, but the oldest at 46 years?
