Heavy weights Champion George Forman died at the age of 76, his family announced on Friday.
The foreman died surrounded by loved ones, his family said.
“Our hearts are broken,” the family wrote in Instagram. “With a deep sadness, we announce the passage of our beloved George Edward Formana, the old man, who retreated peacefully on March 21, 2025, is surrounded by loved ones.”

“The devout preacher, a devoted husband, loving his father and proudly grand great -grandfather, he lived a life marked by unwavering faith, humility and purpose,” the post continued.
“Humanitarian, Olympian and two-time heavyweight world champion, he was deeply respected in favor, a person discipline, condemnation and defender of his heritage, who tirelessly fights for the preservation of his good name for his family,” the post added.
His family said “grateful for the pouring of love and prayers, and kindly ask for privacy if we honor the unusual life of the person we were blessed to call our own.”
In 1968, the foreman became a gold medalist of the Olympic Games when Jonas Chepulis of the Soviet Union won at the Mexico Olympics.
But the foreman was the most famous for his big tickets against the legendary boxers Muhammad Ali and Joe Fraser.
The foreman won the heavyweight title with a stunning knockout of the second round before the invincible Fraser in 1973. He defended his title twice, but then shamefully lost his first professional match Ali in a landmark match of 1974, called “Gul in the Jungle”. This match knew that in Kinshas, Zaire, now known as the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The foreman then retired after the loss of Jimmy Young in 1977, but returned to the box in 1994 at the age of 45. In his return, Forman won the only titles of the WBA Championship, IBF and Lineal heavyweight.
After successful contractions in his second stay, at 46 years and 169 days, he became the oldest champion in the river weight in the history of boxing. The foreman is also the oldest boxer who has ever won the World Heavy World Cup and the other on the side in any weight class.
He then retired forever in 1997 at the age of 48, with the final record of 76 wins, 68 through a knockout, and only 5 losses.
In his career, after sides, the foreman became a successful entrepreneur when he licensed his resemblance to Home Appliance Salton, Inc., which is now known as Russell Hobbs Inc., launch George Foreman Grill – Portable Electric Grill, which became a regular household appliance.
