Indian national cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir will be facing some tough questions from the BCCI after the team’s poor run under him as coach. According to Dainik Jagran reports, it is learned that the BCCI will hold a review meeting today at its headquarters in Mumbai.
Reports claimed that Gautam Gambhir would be asked about the reasons for the ODI series defeat in Sri Lanka after 27 years, a 0-3 clean sweep at home against New Zealand and the Border Gavaskar Trophy defeat after 10 years, followed by elimination. of the race for the 2025 ICC World Test Championship Final.
Gautam Gambhir will be joined by BCCI president Roger Binny, vice-president Rajeev Shukla, acting secretary Devajit Saikia, chief selector Ajit Agarkar and other officials in the meeting and they will discuss the issues facing them in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025
Things are not going well for Gautam Gambhir in his tenure as the head coach of the Indian national cricket team. While the team is doing very well in T20Is, the side has witnessed a massive drop in ODIs as well as the longest format of the game.
India won the Test series against Bangladesh by a 2-0 margin, but after that, suffered a 3-0 thrashing at home against New Zealand, which was the first defeat of the series in 12 years at home. After that, they faced a bad 3-1 defeat against the Australian national cricket team in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Apart from the Perth Test, India looked extremely poor in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Gautam Gambhir’s role as head coach came under scanner as many decisions of his were highlighted in the media and the BCCI is also ready to question them.
Gambhir’s decision to play two spinners in Sydney despite the green pitch can also be questioned along with the dressing room leaks. Reports added that the BCCI is not happy with the loss in the Sri Lanka tour, the home series against New Zealand and the Australia tour.
The governing body wants answers from head coach Gambhir as well as chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar. However, BCCI is against accepting some big calls, especially with the T20I and ODI series around the corner, followed by the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which will be played next month.
Reports add that Gambhir and his support will not be dropped for now as the BCCI’s main focus is on the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The meeting will also see discussions on team selection for the series England as well as the eight nations tournament.
It is learned that Suryakumar Yadav will continue as T20I captain while Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s place in ODIs is secure. However, there will be discussions related to their place in the tests.
