India national cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir gave a befitting reply to Australian national cricket team head coach Andrew McDonald after his comments ” India was intimidating.” He also shared his verdict on the fight between Virat Kohli and Sam Konstas.
The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 was undoubtedly one of the best series in the longest format of the game. Not only was the competition between bat and ball high, it also saw players from both India and Australia get involved in heated moments.
One of the best moments came when Sam Konstas was involved in a tussle with Jasprit Bumrah in the last over of Day 1. The fast bowler was playing with Usman Khawaja, and it was the young Australian, who was at the end of the non-striker, who had a hit on the Indian captain, who then came up to him and shared a few words.
One ball later, Jasprit Bumrah removed Usman Khawaja and what caught the attention of many was the celebration of the Indian national cricket team. The entire team tested Sam Konstas and celebrated around him as the Indian team ended the day on a high.
After that, Australian national cricket team head coach Andrew McDonald spoke about the Indian team’s celebration. He said it was intimidating for the Indian national cricket team to test Sam Konstas.
Gautam Gambhir, while replying to Andrew McDonald, said there was nothing intimidating about it. He also hit out at Sam Konstas, saying the young batsman had no right to be involved with Jasprit Bumrah. Speaking to reporters, he explained:
“Look, it’s a tough sport played by tough men. You can’t be that soft. As simple as that can be. I don’t think there’s anything intimidating about it.
“I think this is just… He had no right to be talking to Jasprit Bumrah when Usman Khawaja was taking time out. He had no right, no business to be involved with Jasprit Bumrah. That was the umpire’s job . Probably the guy. who was batting at the end,” said Gautam Gambhir.
Gautam Gambhir also spoke about the fight between Virat Kohli and Sam Konstas during the MCG Test. He said the sport is played by tough men and there was nothing wrong with that as Australian players have also done the same things in the past. He elaborated:
“I think what’s happened is history. And what’s happened is happened. And like I said, it’s a tough sport played by tough men. And these things happen. I don’t think there’s a lot of big questions to be made. It’s not just these incidents happen in this city.
“It’s happened in the past as well. A lot of Australian players have done it. A lot of Australian players in the past have also done it. So I think we keep making big issues about these things.”
