Fuel for fuel promises quieter, more green sky

Delta Air Lines collaborates with Aerospace Startup Jetzero to present a revolutionary design of aircraft that can potentially convert the commercial flight.

This new design, called the mixed wing body (BWB), is sharply different from traditional pipe aircraft and wings.

Combining the wings and fuselage into a single, wide, flat shape, BWB reduces craving and weight, leading to improvement of fuel efficiency up to 50% compared to Today’s plane.

Travel to zero emissions before 2050

The mixed wing plane (BWB) is the most important component of the Delta Decarbanization Strategy, while improving the fuel efficiency directly supports the Net-Zero-Zero target. Using existing Engine technologyThe design avoids the delay associated with the development of new motor systems, which allows for faster taking in the fleet.

The possibility of aircraft to transport more than 250 passengers, which are in line with medium -sized international aircraft in the range and models of the wide body in the seat, place it as a practical solution for reduction of emissions without sacrificing for prompt needs. Its noise reduction of engines and compatibility with the current airport infrastructure is solved by both environmental and logistics problems, while integration with sustainable aviation fuel enhances its role in carbon emissions.

This multifaceted approach demonstrates how much the innovative Airmrame technology can accelerate the industry shift to more pure travel.

The role of the delta: the transformation of innovation into reality

Delta is deeply involved in the project outside the financial support. Due to its sustainable sky laboratory, the airline makes prompt examination to help make BWB aircraft commercially viable. This includes counseling on maintenance, airport operations and other practical reasons needed to success the plane in the daily airline.

Amelia Deluka, Chief Director of Delta Sustainability, emphasizes the importance of this cooperation, stating that working with Jetzero to develop new aviation and passenger experience is an important step towards promoting fuel and an innovative purpose of the airline.

Rethinking passenger

The BWB’s interior is thought out to be converted to enhance comfort and availability. A wider and more flat shape of the aircraft allows you to create new cabin layouts. Delta seeks to provide a specialized place for overhead trash for each passenger, more accessible seat and toilets and fewer strings to create a less overcrowded environment.

In addition, the engines will be mounted on the top of the plane, which is expected to significantly reduce noise in the cabin and less noise pollution around the airports.

Backed up by industry and state support

This partnership stems from a significant grant from the US Air Force in 2023 to create a full -scale demonstration aircraft, with the first flight scheduled for 2027. Grant, as well as cooperation with aerospace leaders such as Northrop Grumman and scalable composites, reflects the strong support of the government and industry for the BWB concept. Delta has been involved in Jetzero since 2021, giving valuable recommendations on how to bring this technology to the market.

The need to break through technology in aviation

Over the past 50 years, the aviation industry has made impressive fuel profits, raising approximately 80% due to innovations such as winged and lighter materials. In 2024, Delta saved more than 40 million gallons by optimizing operations and upgrading its fleet. However, the industry acknowledges that gradual improvements are not enough to achieve pressing climatic goals. Technologies such as BWB planes are needed to achieve significant discharge and fuel consumption that requires the future.
