Fox News’ Steve and Peter Doocy Reflect on their Father’s Bond

Grow up, Peter Doocy remembers starting every morning by watching his father, Steve DoocyTV.

But in May, Steve, 68, announced that he was leaving Curvy Fox News sofa in New York City to move to Florida, where he would cohost Fox & Friends Three days a week.

“It is definitely an adaptation of TV for the first three hours of my week’s first days, where it has been during all breakfasts since I was in second grade,” Peter, 37, was told only Weekly US in front of Father’s Day Weekend. “But we’re so excited that the new assignment means he can see so many more of the grandparents, who now have the opportunity to do one of my favorite things: join him at work.”

It was certainly indeed earlier this month when Peter and his wife, Fox Business Correspondent Hillary Vaughnbring their two children to a National Park and visit Grandfather in the Congressional base game.

Soon, however, Steve was back in Florida absorbing the province of Sunshine and preparing for his next assignment.

“Our children today live across the country, so if you were – and your parents had invited them to a weekend visit – where would they prefer to travel?” Steve asked. “To the house in New Jersey they grew up in it, where they have to clean their toilets still-or the fun-filled florida? ‘Please make a Suntan lotion dad! We’ll be in Florida on Friday night! Can Mum get that smoke fish from Publix?'” “

When asked if he would never move his family to Florida, Peter was open to the idea.

“Absolutely, we love Florida!” Said to Us. “But at the moment, my wife Hillary and I need to be close to all the steps on Capitol Hill and in the White House.”

To celebrate Father’s Day, Peter and Steve chatted with Us About paternity navigation during insistence careers. They also shared a snapshot of their strong friendships away from any camera crew or breaking news.

What has been your response to see Peter following in your footprint and finding success in journalism?

Steve: Because the television business was so challenging, his mother Kathy and I had assumed Peter was on a trajectory to go to a Business School or Law School that Peter made national headlines with a couple of funny questions for a presidential candidate John McCain at the time that became viral. One thing led to what else and the next thing you know, he worked as a Fox News College age reporter. So I never had the Senior Correspondent of the White House on my Bingo card for Peter.

I remember dearly taking him to the White House Easter egg roll when he was about two, and he was chewing on my press ticket. Then in the vicinity of eye (30 years later), he works in the White House! One day, visiting Peter was chewing again on my press ticket. And I thought it was initially made in the ’80s.

Both of you find yourself in the public eye. Have you ever found yourself defending each other?

Peter: I think we always have each other’s backs and look out for each other. My dad is still the best in the business in what we do and learned everything I know me about how TV works. These days I think talking to him about the news of the day is a great way to distill the most interesting parts of the big stories before I have to go to choose the President’s brain.

Steve: At the start of Peter’s TV career, when he was facing a new situation for him, he would ask me how I was facing the same problem – once at a time. After being there, having done so, I probably saved it some time making the same mistakes I made 30 years ago. Peter has now been a network correspondent for 16 years, he has traveled worldwide many times with Presidents and World Press – today I think I ask him for more advice than he asks me!

Of course, he is my son, and if I see a quote or statistic that could help that day with his reporting – I will send him his way. Not going to lie that if he uses my tidbit on TV, he makes me happy, even though the whole world hangs on his questions, he still listened to his old man.

What is the best piece of advice you have received from your father for paternity?

Peter: Not spending all my time looking forward to the next milestone for the children … and to smell every moment in the present. And also, the best way to get your children play time during middle school sports, if the coaches favor other children … just to become a coach. After a few seasons on the bench, he joined me as an 8th grade baseball coach for me, chose all my friends during the town league’s ‘draft’, and we almost won it, in the most fun term of any sport in my whole life.

Can you give us a glimpse of Steve as a grandfather? What makes him shine in this role?

Peter: It helps me to re -create my childhood’s best parts, for my children. My parents kept a bunch of my favorite things, such as Brien Trains and Curious George Books and Fisher Price Cash Register, which is in such a good condition. My basement is now close to a copy paste of the one I grew up with in New Jersey (along with the Ping Pong Board which took two hours for him to rebuild last week).

What do you most admire about Peter personally and professionally?

Steve: No one in that briefing room is as ready as Peter is when he sits down to ask the Press Secretary’s questions or the President. He usually spends two hours in the morning finding thoughtful and important things to ask for. He has a very strong work ethics that I have probably influenced. Peter saw his father rising for 3 and for 30 years to go to work, and he probably thought that every father was doing the same. They all get up and go to work in the city. However, in retrospect, I am probably the only dad in the neighborhood who came home wearing dense pancake. Okay?

What do you want your children to know about the United States of America?

Peter: That anything is possible. Bridget loves playing with a plastic chef package, and if she wants to be a real cook one day, she can. If she would rather make her favorite class, ballet, career, she can do so too. George is a bit too small for that kind of playtime but hears the same from us. Both of them will always know that the reason they have endless opportunities is because we live in a country where millions of brave men and women have joined us.
