Former UK Prime Minister David Cameron said on Thursday that he was afraid that US President Donald Trump’s approach to ensuring peace in Ukraine could create an alarming precedent.
“I hope what Donald Trump does is a pretty strange language and pretty amazing approaches to try to unlock situations to try to create a situation where Ukraine wants to agree on peace, Russia wants to agree on peace and get to there,” said Cameron Converge in Singapore on Thursday.
“My fear is always that it goes beyond this (and) Trump’s view of the world more, that a great power in the neighborhood is sovereign and you should not interfere with what they want to do,” Cameron said.
He said it could be “very disturbing” for the Baltic states – Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, which share the border with Russia.
“I think it would be very concerned about Ukraine. These are independent, sovereign countries, and we must support the idea that independent sovereign countries should not invade,” he added.
Cameron held the position of Prime Minister of the UK from 2010 to 2016 and Foreign Minister in the Government of former Prime Minister Rish Sanak from 2023 to 2024.
