“While the most important people in his life, Graham was a father and grandfather, for us to be a valuable friend and colleague,” Southern Maltings continued. “He was the only volunteer to get a set of keys to the building, how reliable and respectful he was, and he was not unusual to find him around, even when there was no incident, because he wanted to make the bar clean, stock and ready for everyone else.”
“From a police career, as a member of the defense squad, a huge driving force in the Rotary, and ultimately a key volunteer in the Southern Maltings, so many people are going to miss our own James Bond,” added the post, describing Craker’s long service in the UK Police.
In his memoir 2023, SpareHarry detailed how he and his older brother called Craker’s “crackers” affectionate.
Describing Diana’s funeral parade, the Duke of Sussex wrote, “The driver had to still pull over so that the body guard could go out and clear the flowers off the front window. The body guard was Graham. Willy and I liked it a lot. We always called him crackers. We always thought that was hysterical.”
In an interview in 2017 with The New York PostCraker opened for Diana’s tragic death and how he learned the news on August 31, 1997.
“It was so difficult to take in. It takes time to absorb, and then you feel the need to make sure that what you hear was true – and it didn’t take that long to set up. From there, the police officer’s instinct is to assess the situation and continue,” he said.
“Perhaps the most emotional (second) was to see William the morning after (the car accident),” he said for the week that followed Diana’s death. “I saw William walking his dog outside, and I walked up to him and said, ‘I’m sorry to hear your bad news.’ Unfortunately William said, ‘Thank you.’ Don’t want to trespass on his grief, then walked on, and William continued to walk his dog.
