Former Prime Minister and Opposition leader Chada, Suxes Masra, was arrested on alleged skirmishes that took place on Wednesday in the southwest of the country, the prosecutor said.
He is suspected of distributing hated social media messages related to violence in which at least 42 people were killed, said Umar Mahamat Kedel.
The Masri Transformers Party stated that in the first hours it was “abducted” by the military and announced its detention, which, he said, “was carried out under the borders of the famous judicial procedure.”
Masra is a fierce critic of President Mahammat Debby and claims he won him last year.
Masra said his victory was stolen “from the people”, although official results stated that Debbie had won with 61% of the vote.
In the village of Mandakao, clashes began on Wednesday, in the Logone Occidental province near the Cameroon border.
“The messages were distributed, in particular on social media, calling on the population to arm against other citizens,” Mr. Kedel said.
It is not quite clear what caused violence, but one source informed the AFP news agency that it was caused by a land dispute between the farmers with the NGAM and Falan community.
There was an alarming recent scheme of violence between local farmers and shepherds, and farmers accused the latter of grazing animals on their land.
More than 80 others were also detained in connection with contractions.
Masra briefly held the post of Provisional Prime Minister -the transitional government between January to May 2024.
His party boycotted legislative polls last December with the concern of the transparency of the electoral process.
Debbi’s family has been driving more than three decades.
The military installed Debbie as Chad leader after his father Idris Debbie Itno, killed by the rebels in 2021.
