Former Marlins star says Miami police are ‘always looking to get their hands on athletes’ after Olympian arrest

Olympic athlete Fred Curley was arrested Several videos of the meeting went viral on Thursday night.

Bodycam footage showed the 2024 bronze medalist get into the policewhile another angle showed one officer punching while others held Curley down.

Curley was taken into custody after police said he became agitated while trying to get to his car, which was near the scene of an active police investigation.

Body camera footage obtained by TMZ Sports shows Curley talking to police before turning to another officer, who placed his hand on Curley’s chest, which Curley fought back. The officer then shoved Curley with his other hand before chaos ensued.

Former Miami Marlins Jazz star Chisholm Jr., who now plays for the New York Yankees, criticized the police for their actions.

“Miami Beach Police are always looking for a way to get their hands on athletes! I’m sorry this happened to you, Fred!” Chisholm sent a message to X.

Curley faces charges of battery on a police officer, corrections officer or firefighter; resisting an employee without violence; and hooliganism. He was released on bail.

Curley’s arrest on Thursday led to him being charged with domestic violence and robbery stemming from an incident in May when police issued a probable cause alert in their system. According to arrest affidavits obtained by Fox News Digital, Curley and his wife got into a verbal and then physical altercation in May, on his birthday, when Curley’s wife contacted an “unknown person on Instagram.”

Curley, the affidavit said, aggressively approached his wife and she hit him out of fear, according to the affidavit. Curley then allegedly “grabbed the victim, pushed her to the ground, wrapped her arms around her neck and prevented her from breathing.”

The affidavit said Curley stole his wife’s cell phone after choking her a second time. Curley was not present when authorities arrived and witnesses refused to cooperate, police said.

The woman Curley was with on Thursday, Cleo Rahman, was also arrested and is said to be dating. Rahman wrote “free my man” as a caption to the video of the officer hitting Curley.

“So when we were trying to get to our car, the cop decided to push my boyfriend and move him out of the way, and that started a big fiasco,” Rahman, a rapper who goes by the name DJ Sky High Baby, told NBC. Miami. “We were just trying to get to the car. We weren’t trying to obstruct justice or anything like that. It’s just crazy to the point that (it took) four policemen to try and arrest him. It was absolute madness. “

Curley won a bronze medal in the 100 meters in Paris this summer, while teammate Noah Lyles won his first Olympic gold. Curley won the 2022 world championships in the event and silver at the Tokyo Olympics, and he also won the 4x400m relay in 2019 and the 4x100m relay in 2023.

Curley was part of the 4x100m team in Paris, which was disqualified due to a failed relay. Noah Lyles was expected to be part of that team, but came down with COVID, which kept him out of the 200m event, in which he was heavily favored.
