Halle BerryEx-husband David justice He admitted that he questioned whether Oscar’s winner was “the woman I want to have children with” before their 1996 split.
“I was young and only, honestly, had been in one relationship before her. My knowledge and understanding, my wisdom around relationships was not abundant,” explained justice, 59, during the appearance of the “All Smoke” podcast On Thursday, August 7. “So I’m looking at my mother and I’m a Midwest man. So in my mind, I think a woman then should cook, clean up.”
He went on, “Then I think, ‘If we have children, is this the woman I want to have children with and build a family with?’ At that time, as a young guy, she does not cook, do not clean, seems maternal, and then we start to have problems.
He married Berry, 58, and former Major League Baseball on New Year’s Day in 1993.

The couple’s hurricane marriage was a constant press feed in the mid -1990s. Berry separated and justice in February 1996 and eventually completed their divorce in June 1997.
During his podcast appearance, the former Champion of the World Series admitted that he had second thoughts on Berry’s engagement shortly after she “asked me to marry her after knowing me for five months.”
“I said right, because we can’t say no. Who’s going to say no then?” Justice remembers. “I don’t know if my heart was actually in it, but I didn’t want to make her feel bad and say no, you know, or (if) I was in the moment alone.”

Jeff Kravitz/FilmmagicJustice acknowledged that his relationship with Berry had come at the worst possible time because they both were building their careers, which meant they had spent a lot of time apart.
“I could probably have done it if I knew about therapy. If we knew about therapy, we could probably have done,” he said.
Weekly US reached out to a Berry spokesperson for comments.
Following her relationship with justice, Berry was married to Eric Benet between 2001 and 2005 and then to Olivier martinez -The sharing Maceo-Robert’s son with them-between 2013 and 2016. The Catwoman Actress Nahla Ariela welcomed during her five -year relationship to Gabriel Aubryand has been with a musician Hunt van Since 2020.
Hunt was revealed during the appearance of June 2025 on NBC’s Today he is still waiting for a reply after Offer to Berry. (The singer-songwriter was once married before, and has a son, but has not publicly revealed the details of that relationship.)
“Well, I’ve been married three times,” he noted Today. “Van has been married once, so no, we don’t feel we have to marry to validate our love in any way. We are not.”
The actress added, “But I think I would marry just because, out of the people I’ve been married to, this is the person I should have married. And I feel like I should, we should marry, but not because we feel like we feel like we have to do it. I think it’s something we want to do just because we want that expression.”
