Copenhagen, the Denmark of the Pharmaceutical Sector of Europe leads to the potential impact of tariffs on the United States, as the hopes for exemption from US President Donald Trump disappear.
The pharmaceutical industry has so far been released from leisure but Trump confirmed Last week, it will soon apply tariffs to the sector.
Drug manufacturers are now lobbying the president for a gradual approach to import duties in the US, Reuters report On Tuesday, citing four sources, familiar with discussions. Sources note that fees may not be announced on Wednesday, but probably inevitable.
The gradual sale of tariffs in the sector can reduce the direct financial stroke and allow companies to move their production. However, some firms warn that lack of clarity already has negative secondary effects.
“It is more important for us not only the influence of tariffs, but also the influence he has on the market,” said CNBC Ester Baiget, CEO of the Danish Biotechnology Firm Novonesis.
“If you bring tariffs, it causes uncertainty, and if you (unsure, you suspend, you suspend innovation, you publish, you suspend investment,” said Bayget whose firm follows about 30% its sales in the US, but also increases the production in the country.
Denmark is one of the largest pharmaceutical and biotechnology centers in Europe where companies live, including Wegovy Maker Novo nordisk and the manufacturer’s vaccine Bavarian northern – Both of them have high impact on the US
Last week, Novo Nordisk, CNBC, told CNBC that the company did not reflect on Trump’s tariff statement and was instead focused on being flexible.
“It doesn’t make much sense to think too much,” said Helge Lund, CNBC on the sidelines of the annual general assembly giant of the Danish pharmaceutical giant. “We are laser focused on what we can influence.”
However, questions were asked about how tariffs could affect the US sales extremely popular obesity and diabetes treatment and consequences for us competitor and ZEPBound manufacturer Eli Lily. Lund will not press on what share on the sale of drugs obtained from American plants, instead pointing to the “very significant” setting of the firm in the US
The threat of tariffs also added uncertainty in the investment landscape. Speaking to CNBC on Monday, Emily Field, the head of European pharmaceutical studies in Barclays, she called tariffs for “Question No. 1 about the minds of investors”.
Morten Bjjskov, Minister of Denmark on Industry, Business and Financial Affairs, said CNBC on Tuesday that he supported the country’s pharmaceutical industry and corporations more broadly about the potential tariffs on a small, difficult economy.
“Of course, we are in close dialogue with them,” Bodkov said. “Our task is to put them into a discussion on how the world is changing. Many of them are the world’s world companies, so our task is to help them see the prospects of future markets,” he added.
However, he noted that it is unclear whether the Trump administration could appeal to his protectionist policy, or to make assistance for certain sectors.
Meanwhile, Baiget for companies such as Novonesis said it was a matter of viewing the events “very carefully” – and is ready for action if necessary.
“There is a lot of volatility and there is a lot of fasting trends,” she said. “It is important for us to unleash, and we will also learn how to buck some of them.”
