Cricketing landscape in Hyderabad has been messy after the dramatic arrest of Cricket Hyderabad President (HCA) A jagan mohan rao and four other senior officials of the Cid of Tellangana. High profile arrests come from a serious complaint filed by Kavya maranOwner of the Indian Premier League Franchise (IPL) Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)alleging a persistent blackmail and poor behavior by HCA leadership. This unprecedented development has sent the shock waves through the State Sports Administration and has raised important issues on the future of professional cricket in the region.
The controversy first appeared during the 2025 IPL season in March, when SRH formally climbed its grievances in Cricket Control Board in India (BCCI) and the Governing Council of the IPL. In his detailed complaint, SRH accused HCA officials of relentlessly pressing the franchise to provide an exorbitant number of free match passes, far exceeding the stipulated quota. The complaint also meant the alleged threats, saying that HCA officials warned of creating significant logistical and operational obstacles for the team playing at the Cricket Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium if their additional ticket requirements were not fulfilled. The severity of these threats led Srh to broadcast a severe warning: if the alleged blackmail continued, the franchise would be seriously considering moving its home games out of Hiderabad. Recognizing the severe implications of these complaints, the Chief Minister of Tellangana, A. Revanth Reddy, quickly ordered a comprehensive investigation, which has now culminated in these arrests.
The quick action of the Cid of Tellangana resulted in the arrest of five prominent figures within the Hiderabad Cricket Association. The arrested ones include:
These individuals are now confronted with a lettuce of serious charges, including financial irregularities, the abuse of their official positions and the institutional blackmail. The arrests emphasize the state’s commitment to root corruption and ensure a fair game, not only in the field, but also to the administrative structures that regulate the sport.

An official declaration of Sunrisers Hyderabad, connected to the BCCI, emphasized the increasing tension: “HCA’s repeated tactics are not only uncooperative but are direct threats. If that continues, we will be forced to move our Hiderabad matches.” This strong warning emphasizes the immense pressure of the franchise. According to IPL regulations, Cricket State Associations are entitled to 5% of the total number of tickets as free passes for their officials and guests. However, the HCA allegedly demanded a significantly higher percentage, using coercive tactics when its demands were not fulfilled.
Ongoing research, now under the direct monitoring of the BCCI, suggests that this matter will not be easily dismissed.
