Fires force Turkey to close Dardonella’s Strait to Delivery

Dardanela’s Strait was temporarily closed by the sea movement due to forest fires raging in northwestern Turkey, the country’s transport ministry said.

According to her, the main international waterway was closed as a precaution when the stripes were extended near the city of Kanakakale, where a number of residents were evacuated.

Turkish firefighters were deployed to try to restrain the fires. Specialized firefighters and helicopters are also used.

Dardaneli binds the Aegean Sea with Marmar. Together with the Baspara Strait, it serves as a vital route for commercial delivery between Europe and Asia.

According to official data, nearly 46,000 vessels crossed Dardanela.

Local officials said strong wind and hot dry weather enhance the fires. The efforts to extinguish the fires from both the “air and the land” continued, the provincial governor of Kanakakale – quoted today in Turkia, – said on Friday.

The main airport of Kanakakale is closed for passenger flights, but firefighters and search and rescue aircraft work from there.
