A young woman should testify in the Spanish court today, trying to convince the judge to allow her to voluntarily die against her father’s wishes in the first case.
A 23-year-old woman who wants to end her life is parapet, due to injuries suffered when she tried to pick up her life in 2022.
In her support of the regional government of Catalonia, after the Local Council for Guaranteeing and Euthanasia, she unanimously supported her decision in July 2024.
Euthanasia is an act of intentionally stopping a person’s life to remove suffering. It can be involuntary – for example, when a person is in a coma and cannot give their consent – or voluntarily, as in this case.
The woman was supposed to die in August, but the process was rejected at the last moment from the legal objections expressed by her father, with the support of the company’s Christian lawyers (Abogados Cristianos).
“I feel misunderstood by the family, I feel alone and empty, this situation causes me great suffering,” the woman said, according to documents related to the affairs of the Spanish media.
The legal representation of the Catalan government in this case stated that “no evidence of a scientific or expert was presented to contradict many medical protocols that support the decision (die).”
However, the woman’s father claims that she suffers from the disorder of the person affecting her opinion, and he pointed to “the duty of the state to defend the lives of people, especially the most vulnerable, as it is in the case of a young person with mental health problems.”
He also said she responded well to rehabilitation treatment.
His legal representation also claims that the young woman has changed his euthanasia several times.
The prosecutor did not place himself in relation to the case, instead of calling on the judge to hear the opinion of the experts and the woman herself before deciding.
Among those who also testify in the court in Barcelona, today is a member of the Euthanasia Council, who evaluated her case, a specialist in nervous-regime and psychiatric specialists.
