The Big Bash League (BBL) is known for its intense inter-team rivalry and amazing display with the bat and bowl to create a brilliant experience for its fans and the cricketing community around the world. However, it is rare for the history books to be rewritten in BBL encounters due to storming innings by the batsmen. One such rare occasion happened during the finals of the 14th edition of BBL between Hobart Hurricanes i Sydney Thunderstorm when the Hurricanes opener smashed an emphatic century off just 39 balls to achieve the joint fastest century in BBL history. The BBL ace kept his team Hobart Hurricanes’ hopes alive during the 2016/17 BBL season with his 114-run knock from 52 balls. The wicket-keeper batsman crucially stormed a 47-ball century to register the fifth-fastest century in BBL history and was declared Man of the Match in a do-or-die encounter for the Hurricanes.

The experienced England T20 league batsman managed to dominate Hobart Hurricanes during the 2012 season to write history by scoring the fastest ton of the time in just 44 balls. The Melbourne Stars century batsman was full of power with 9 sixes and 8 boundaries.

Australia’s experienced batsman Glenn Maxwell he hit a blistering 154 off just 64 balls which paved the way for the Melbourne Stars to post a mammoth 273/2, the highest total in BBL history. Maxwell became the first player to score 150 runs in a single innings during his batting display against the Hurricanes. The explosive batsman reached the half-century mark in just 20 balls and brought up his century in just 41 balls. Maxwell hit 22 boundaries and 4 sixes in a remarkable innings for his BBL team.

(2) Craig Simmons (Perth Scorchers):

During the BBL clash between Perth Scorchers and Adelaide Strikers in the 2014 edition of the tournament, Scorchers’ first goal Craig Simmons shook the bowling effort of the Strikers to amass the fastest ton in BBL history off just 39 balls with 8 fours and 8 sixes. Simmons’ storming knock allowed Scorchers to reach a total of 203 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs. The mammoth total enabled the Scorchers to claim a thrilling 5-run win over the Strikers in the match.

The stage was set for an action-packed contest between the Hurricanes and Sydney Thunder in the finals of the 14th edition of the prestigious competition. After Thunder reached a total of 182/7 in 20 overs, Hurricanes opener Owen stormed the Ninja Stadium to score a 39-ball century with the help of 11 towering sixes and 6 boundaries. The Hurricanes’ opener caused carnage in the Thunder’s bowling unit when it mattered most. Through his impeccable innings, he became only the second player to score a ton in a final after Jake Weatherald.
