Taskin Ahmed, playing for Durbar Rajshahi in the 2024-25 edition, he etched his name into the record books with a remarkable performance in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) who redefined fast bowling standards.
His star spell dismantled the Capitals of Dhaka‘, which resulted in a record 7 wickets for just 19 runs in 4 overs at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Thursday (January 2), marking a monumental milestone in BPL history.
Taskin’s impressive feat not only secured him the top spot in BPL bowling history but also elevated his status on the world stage. His haul of 7 wickets surpassed Pakistan’s Mohammad Amir‘The previous record of 6 wickets for 17 runs, which was set in 2020 while playing for the Tigers of Khulna against him Sylhet Royals. Taskin’s exceptional economy rate of just 4.75 runs an over showcased his control and accuracy, making his performance one of the best ever in T20 cricket.
Taskin’s remarkable performance is not just a BPL record; puts him among the best T20 bowlers in the world. The record for the best T20 figures is currently held by him malaysia‘s Syazrul Idruswho took 7 wickets for just 8 runs against china in a T20 International match in 2023. He follows Colin Ackermannwho claimed 7 wickets for 18 runs for Leicestershire against Birmingham bears at England’s Vitality Blast. Hence, Taskin’s figures are now the third best in the recognized history of T20 cricket, a testament to his elite bowling prowess.

Taskin’s historic performance began with the early dismissal of Litton Das. In his second over, Taskin shook Das with a sharp bounce that found a catch at slip, reducing Dhaka Capitals to 6/1. After this breakthrough, Taskin struck again in the fourth over, dismissing Tanzid Hassan wwith a delivery that found the edge and was caught behind. These early developments set the tone for what was to come.
Taskin returned for the crucial 17th, where he continued his assault on the Dhaka Capitals’ batting order. He dismissed Shahadat Hossain Dipuwho had been playing a steady hand with a 40-ball 50-run knock, with a perfect length ball that squared him and led to a straight catch at the wicketkeeper. Taskin followed up with the dismissal of Chaturanga de Silvaboth in rapid succession, further hastening Dhaka’s collapse.
Taskin saved the best for last, again playing his ending with remarkable composure and intensity. He claimed three wickets while conceding just 2 runs, narrowly missing out on a hat-trick. Taskin’s victims were Alauddin Babu, Mukidul Islam i Shubham Ranjane. His late brilliance sealed Dhaka’s fate and ended a spell that left a lasting impression on the game.
Although Dhaka managed to post a challenging total of 174 for 9, Taskin Ahmed’s exceptional spell crippled their batting line-up. His precise line and length, along with his ability to extract bounce and movement, made him virtually unplayable. Taskin’s ability to take wickets at regular intervals ensured that no batsman could settle in, forcing Dhaka to catch up throughout their innings.
