It Cricket Control Board in India (BCCI) has introduced significant updates of the player replacement rules for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025especially focused on wick maintainers. These new regulations aim to provide the franchises more flexibility in the management of their teams during the season, especially when they encounter injury or unavailability of key players.
Key provisions of new rules
Special clause for wick goalkeepers:
Temporary Substitutions: If all maintainers of the staff of a team’s registered squad are not available for a match, the franchise can request a special exemption from the BCCI to sign a temporary goalkeeper from Wicket from outside their workforce.
Eligibility Criteria: The substitution wick holder can play until one of the members of the original squad is available. If the wick goalkeeper is not available is an overseas player and the team has already filled his eight -player share abroad, the replacement must be an Indian player.
Injuries that end the season:
Replacement conditions: A player may be replaced with an injury or illness that ends the season before or during the twelfth game in the team’s league. The injury must be confirmed by a doctor nominated for BCCI and the player must have been available for all remaining matches without the injury.
No return: Once replaced, the injured player cannot play for the same franchise in that season.
Pool of registered available players (RAPP):
Source of replacement: Franchises can only select Rapp spare players, which includes players who were part of the IPL auction But it was not sold or did not withdraw from the auction process.
Equity and transparency: This system guarantees that all substitutions are transparent and fair, preventing equipment from being unjustly remaining for possible substitutions.
