The 2025 Oscars celebrates and honors the year’s top films and performances, as well as those affected by the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles.

The 97th Academy Awards will take place on Sunday, March 2, at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. Although the date of the ceremony has remained the same, the Chief Executive Officer of the Academy Bill Kramer and the President of the Academy Janet Yang teased that this year’s show could look different after the LA wildfires affected thousands across the region, including many celebrities.

“We are shocked by the impact of the fires and the serious losses experienced by so many in our community. The Academy has always been a unifying force within the film industry, and we are committed to standing together in the face of hardship,” Kramer and Yang said in a joint statement on Jan. 13, noting that voting period the Oscars has been extended.

“In addition, as we want to be sensitive to the infrastructure and accommodation needs of the region in the next few weeks, it is imperative that we make some changes to our schedule of events, which we believe will have the support of our industry,” the statement continued. “Our members always share how important it is for us to come together as a community, and we are determined to use this opportunity to celebrate our resilient and compassionate industry. We are also looking forward to honoring our frontline workers who have assisted with the fires, recognizing those affected, and encouraging people to join the Academy in supporting the relief efforts.”

However, the voting window for members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences was extended several times due to the fires. Voting ended on January 17, which was the date the nominations were originally intended to be published.

How Are The Oscars Different From Other Awards Shows?

There Won’t Be Musical Performances by Nominated Artists

News broke in January 2025 that Best Original Song will no longer be awarded during the live broadcast. In addition, the nominees will not perform the singles live on air.
