LONDON — European stocks are expected to open slightly higher on Tuesday as traders review the first executive orders that newly inaugurated US President Donald Trump signed on Monday.
Great Britain FTSE the index in Germany rose 10 points to 8,531 DAX up 4 points to 21,004 in France CAC 40 7 points higher – 7740 and in Italy FTSE MIB up 44 points to 36,326, according to IG data.
Global investors will be assessing the potential impact of Trump’s second term in office after he is inaugurated as the 47th US president on Monday. After the ceremony, Trump signed several of his first executive orders in front of an audience of 20,000 fans at Capital One Arena in Washington.
Trump issued “full forgiveness” to the approximately 1,500 people charged in the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. He also signed an executive order effectively suspending the law that prohibits TikTok in the US
Trump also said on Monday that tariffs of 25% could be imposed against Mexico and Canada in early February.

In other news, European investors will be watching the market World Economic Forum in DavosSwitzerland, this week. The annual event, which attracts heads of government and businessmen from around the world, is getting more intense on Tuesday.
While some are skipping Davos — this year, the leaders of China, India and a number of key European leaders are absent — Trump is scheduled to address participants via video link on Thursday.
There will be a series of keynotes on Tuesday, with Ursula von der Leyen, head of the European Commission, speaking at 10:50 Davos time (9:50 London time). Shortly thereafter, at 11:20 a.m., Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang will deliver a keynote speech.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will speak at the forum at 2:00 p.m. local time, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will speak at 2:30 p.m. The forum will be an important platform for the president to present Ukraine’s arguments ahead of likely pressure from Trump to seek a ceasefire with Russia to end the war.
Later in the afternoon, Cyril Ramaphosa, President of the Republic of South Africa, will deliver the keynote address at 15:45 Davos time.
There will be no major earnings releases in Europe on Tuesday. Data releases include UK unemployment for November and ZEW data on economic sentiment in Europe.
