Ruben Amorim stated that Manchester United will be considered differently if they succeed in the Europa League final against Tottenham.
After taking the post of Erik Ten in November, Amorim has overseen most of the worst season of the League League in United history, one that cannot end the 14th place.
But on Wednesday, a victory over Tottenham in Bilbao would save the campaign by giving United an important trophy and, crucially, the qualification for the Champions League next season.
The return to the upper table of European football would be a great boost to the United States financially and will offer possible additional signings for incentives to join the club.
Amorim, however, believes that a change to the U.S. perception and the feeling within the club would be the most significant consequences of the glory of the Europa League.
He told a pre-match press conference: “People will look at our team in a different way. It can help us build a future.
“Our club can have income without the Champions League. It’s a big club, a massive club, but the feeling of winning can help us give us the strength we need to do all the work we need.”
Despite the unpleasant form of the Premier League, he likes the vocal support of fans and, apparently, has the support of the US hierarchy.
Asked why he seems to be not under pressure, Amorim replied, “It’s strange because you have some coaches here that some games lose and they are looted … It’s hard to explain.
“I think people see what we try to do, I think people see that sometimes I am thinking more about the club than me.
“People understand, especially the advice, that we have many problems that in context is really difficult.”
But Amorim knows that even his first trophy as United Manager cannot play paper on the cracks this season has made it even more evident.
“There are many things we have to change,” he added.
“The way to do -everything during the week in Carrington, the hiring, the academy. It is difficult to point to one thing and it will not be resolved by winning the Cup.”
