The Ethiopian official denied Donald Trump’s statement that the United States had helped finance the new Ethiopian mega on the Neil River, saying it was false and “destructive”.
Last week, President Trump said the controversial platinum was built “with the United States’ money to a large extent.”
Officially known as the Great Ethiopian Renaissance Platinum (HERD), the project-na-nauscal hydroelectric plant and the main source of pride for the Ethiopians.
Over the 14 years, which it took to complete the GERD, the Ethiopian authorities have repeatedly stated that the platinum is funded by the government, as well as contributions from the Ethiopian people.
However, the dam has angry Egypt and Sudan lying up the river on the Nile River and afraid that the dam can lead to less water coming to their countries.
BBC asked the US authorities to expand Trump’s comments.
On Tuesday, Ficrate Tamir, deputy director of the coordinating bureau of GERD, rejected Trump’s comments, saying that the dam was built “without foreign aid”.
Although the technically independent body, the government coordination has been created by the government to mobilize the resources for the dam.
“As for what Donald Trump claimed, the government should respond to the visionary and carefully considered diplomatic procedures,” said Ms Ficote.
After the comments, Ms Ficrate some Ethiopians call into question how secret the GERD coordination service will be for any potential transaction between the government and the US, given its independent status.
The Ethiopian Government did not respond to Trump’s comments about the Platin Financing that began to produce electricity in 2022 And it was fully completed earlier this month.
This is not the first time Trump said we had participation in the GERD. Last month, in the post on his social internet platform, the president said the platinum was “in the world -funded United States” and “significantly reduces the water entering the Nile River.”
Gerd lies more than miles in length and 145 m, lies on the blue Nile in northern Ethiopia, where 85% of the Nile River flows.
Ethiopia wants the dam to produce desperately necessary electricity, as most of its population – about 60% – have no supplies.
But the construction of the GERD led to tensions with Egypt – the ally of the Trump administration – and Sudan.
Initially, it is planned to be completed within six years with a $ 4 billion budget (2.9 billion pounds), Gerd caused excitement among the Ethiopian public.
Authorities took advantage of this percentage to raise money for the dam – the bonds were sold to companies, staff promised expulsion from their salaries and a huge Ethiopian diaspora aimed at donations.
Despite the fact that the project significantly launches the schedule, and thus overstated, it continued to contribute.
A 1.7 billion Birr ($ 12.3 million; 9.1 million pounds) was raised from the public in the year on July 7, the GER Coordination Bureau said.
