Family Idaho murder victim Ethan Chapin spoke out after the waiver of sentencing his murderer, Bryan Kohberger.
Postage by Instagram On Thursday, July 31, Ethan’s mother, Stacy Chapin, shared a long statement alongside a carousel of family pictures that included her son.
Ethan, 20, was among the Four college students were murdered By Kohberger in November 2022. Maddie21, Kayleee goncalves21, and Xana Kernodle20, also lost their lives alongside Ethan at a home in Moscow, Idaho. Kohberger sentenced to Four consecutive life sentencesS for the offenses during a sentencing hearing held on July 23.
“We’ve given a lot of thinking about what we should say since 7/23 and meant this a million times. The whole situation has been a difficult pill to swallow but at the end of the day, we think the result is the right one,” Stacy, who did not attend the court for the sentence, did not attend the Instagram Post.
Stacy thanked Moscow Police Department, ISP and FBI, prosecutor, Idaho University staff, media and their “incredible” extended family, friends and communities for their contributions and support throughout this difficult time.
He also thanked, “All of the children! The close friends of the triplets, the Greek family, and others who were part of this story from the outset.”
Stacy continued, “Although all of their experiences are different, they have all suffered serious loss and trauma. We remain in reverence of their strength, and we will continue to support them in any way we can.”
In closing the post, Stacy paid an emotional tribute to his late son and promised to honor him after his death.
“Finally, thank you, Ethan. You were only with us for 20 years, but you touched the lives of so many people. From the time you were a baby when we dropped you at college, you were a complete joy and the glue that held our family together,” he wrote. “We remember your smile, your laughter, how you kept us in mind, and the many ways you brought happiness and light to any situation. There will never be another one for you. It would never have been enough time with you. We love you, miss you, and promise to continue honoring your inheritance.”
The night he died, he had formally attended with his sister Maizie Before going to 1122 King Road where his girlfriend Kernodle lived.
While Ethan was asleep, Kohberger broke in and stabbed Mogen’s first -first -lodgers to death. Kernodle came across Kohberger at home after the initial murders and after a battle, she was also killed. Ethan was the last one to lose his life, and was later discovered in bed after being stabbed fatally.
In the four -part documentary series, One Night in Idaho: College MurdersReleased earlier this month, Stacy shared why their family did not attend Kohberger’s sentencing as the other victims’ families.
“Sitting in the court room doesn’t feel right. Why would I go to sit in a court room with that person?” Stacy said. “We will not attend any of the hearings. What is the purpose?”
