The grass of Lord’s cricket grass woke up with a striking sea of red as players, staff and thousands of spectators united by a cause that transcended the cricket. On the 2nd of the Third test between England and IndiaThe iconic place hosted its annual #redforruth day, transforming the Cricket Home into a vibrant symbol of solidarity, memory and hope.
What is #redforruth day?
#Redforruth Day is an initiative led by Ruth Strauss Foundation (RSF), established in memory of Ruth StraussThe late wife of former Captain of England Andrew Strauss. Ruth Strauss died in December 2018 at the age of 46 after a battle with a rare form of non -smoking lung cancer. The Foundation was launched in 2019 with the mission of supporting families who face a parent’s terminal disease, finance rare lung cancers research and train healthcare professionals in palliative care.
Red was Ruth’s favorite color and has become the emblematic tone of the campaign. The initiative encourages everyone to Lord’s, players, coaches, stations and fans, to make red as a visual spectacle to support the foundation’s work. Color transforms the historical terrain, creating a powerful and unified statement that puts both consciousness and vital funds for families affected by terminal diseases.
Day 2 of the Lord’s test: a sea of red and a cordial tribute
The players and officials of both England and India put red caps, t -shirts and accessories.
The viewers were encouraged to arrive early, dressed in red, to participate in a special opening ceremony.
The volunteers distributed “Ruth Roses” and sold the popular hats of #redforruth Bucket, with income supporting RSF initiatives.
Andrew Strauss’s children sounded the ceremonial bell before playing, scoring the occasion with a family time.
The stands, usually a mixture of white and colors of the equipment, were unified in red, while the terrain itself had red theme decorations and raising awareness banners. The view was visually impressive and emotionally resonating, as the cricketing community paused to remind Ruth and support families in the face of similar struggles.

Since its inception, the Foundation has supported more than 3,500 family members and has trained thousands of healthcare professionals in the management of end -of -life conversations. His work has helped to normalize discussions about terminal death and illness, especially when children participate, and has provided a lifestyle to families navigating unimaginable challenges.
