Former England captain Geoffrey boycott has touched on Ben Stokes and his team for their conduct on the last day of the fourth test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy In Old Trafford, Manchester. Geoffrey Boycott criticizes England hypocrisy
Boycott emphasized the double standards in England’s reaction to India’s decision to continue to beat. He said that Stokes and his men are known for their aggressive behavior in the field, often crushing opponents for a psychological advantage. Boycott argued that it was reasonable that England was waiting courtesy of India when they themselves had been “overflowing” to the Indian batters throughout the game. According to him, Jadja and Sundar had all the right to follow, especially after their monumental effort to save the game, and England only needed to accept the situation instead of complaining.
“What is around is around. England has never resisted the call to opponents, so they cannot complain if India decides to stay. Jadja and Sundar fought the heart and won the right to look for their hundreds. If England can come out, they should be able to take it.” Boycott wrote in his column for the telegraph.
Boycott praises India’s mental force
In his second statement, Boycott applauded Jadja and Sundar for his resilience under pressure. He emphasized that the Indian couple’s decision to continue to beat was not only personal milestones, but also a testimony of their determination and discipline. When leaving the deliveries outside the gang, defending themselves solidly and refusing to give in, the two batters showed the mental harshness required by the test cricket. Boycott even admitted that in his position he would have done the same, emphasizing how his refusal to walk symbolized the spirit of struggle of India.
“These Indian players are hard cookies. There is no way I had left me in 89 after fighting throughout the day to save the game. Jadja and Sundar defended skillfully, they left the ball brilliantly and showed the kind of mental force you want in the test cricket. They deserved all.” added boycott.
