Elton John finds that his recent sight loss is “distressing.”
“I can see you, but I can’t see TV, I can’t read,” John, 78, told a London times Correspondent in a profile published on Friday, April 4.
He added, “It’s upset. You get emotional, but you have to get used to it because I’m lucky to have the life I have. I still have my amazing family, and I can still see something out of (my left eye). So you tell yourself, ‘just get on with it.
John – who shares the sons of Zachary, 14, and Elias, 12, with husband David Furniture – Most of his sight lost in 2024 after eye infection.
“I had an infection in southern France,” John said on Good morning America In November 2024. “It’s been four months since I haven’t been able to see, and my left eye is not the biggest. I’m, kind of, stuck in the moment.”
At the time, John was not sure if he could continue to make music.
“I can’t see lyric, for starting. We’re taking an initiative to try to improve it, but right now, that’s what we’re really focusing on,” John revealed on it Gma. “It’s never lucky for anything like this to happen. Kinda floated me, and I can’t see anything. I can’t read anything, I can’t watch anything.”
John, luckily, could continue to perform. Its newest album, Who believes in angels ?, is a collaboration with Carlile Brandi and dropped on Friday.
“I knew her because I bought her album and she is the most amazing singer, so I said, ‘absolutely, but you’ll have to come to Vegas because I’m stuck here.’ We became friends and took an interest in where she was going, ”John told The times. “I even bought her an electric guitar. People thought Who believes in angels? would be Americana, relaxed. He is enthusiastic and rocking. “
According to John, he did not always agree with his fellow songwriters.
“They stood up to me and I was frustrated, but it’s not good to work with ‘yes people.’ If I want to make a great album at 76 or 77, I have to know and they tolerate my little boys, which was about anxiety, self-doubt and not feeling very good at the time, ”said John. “I was tired, so I thought, ‘I’m going to get back on this.’ The problem was three other people involved, and I knew if I walked away from it, I would hate myself for the rest of my life. ”
While John hopes to continue to make music and perform, his family life infinitely more important.
“I always said I wanted to die on stage. Now I want my headstone to read, ‘It was a great dad,'” John noted. “My career has been wonderful, but the children are what matters.”
According to John, he and her husband focus on “ensuring” that Zachary and Elijah will be right.
“We make sure they are right, making sure they are appreciative and don’t ruin them too much because, you know, I’m Elton John,” the singer concluded.
