The EFL Cup will have an additional round for 2025-26 due to the number of Premier League teams that will participate in the European competition.
New Premier League teams will have to compete in UEFA tournaments next season.
Six Premier League faces will appear in the Champions League, including the Liverpool and Newcastle United champions, who won the Reds 2-1 in this year’s EFL Cup final to end a 70-year wait for a main domestic trophy.
The Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea and the winners of the Europa League will be added.
The winners of Aston Villa and FA CUP Crystal Palace will enter Europe League, although the latter’s participation is due to a possible breach of the UEFA Multi-CLUB ownership rules. John Textor is the owner of Eagle Football, which has a 43 percent participation in the Palau. However, Eagle Football also has a 77 percent participation on the French side Lyon, which also qualified for Europe League.
In the meantime, Nottingham Forest will compete in the conference league after finishing seventh place.
The Clubs of the Premier League of the European competition does not enter the EFL Cup until the third round. However, to house these nine teams, the EFL has chosen to introduce a preliminary round of four teams, reducing the number of sides in rounds one and two.
It will consist of the two parties promoted of the National League, Barnet and Oldham Athletic, and the teams that ended third and fourth from below the League Dos, Newport County and Accrington Stanley.
The links will be regionalized in the north and south, which means that Accrrington will face Oldham and Newport will take Barnet and will take place during the week from August 4.
The draw for the first round will take place on June 26, with the links that will take place during the week from 11 August.
Newcastle will begin its defense in the third round, with the Magpies and the other eight European teams that play these links during the weeks that begin on September 15 and September 22.
