Promoter Eddie Hearn says that Callum Smith still has to decide if you can fight with WBC’s heavy weight champion David Benavidez or defend his provisional Wbo belt.
Hearn claims that Smith (31-2, 22 kos) wants to become a world champion of two divisions, but has “without easy touches” between assuming IBF, WBA and the Wbo Dmitry Bivol or Benavidez champion.
The way Hearn speaks, it seems that it is not safe if Smith will take the fight with Benavidez (30-0, 24 kos). This makes sense. It would probably be a minor payment day for Callum, and his chance of winning would be inferior to if he fought against Bivol. We have already seen how good is Benavidez with the fight against the great punches, with his recent two victories on David Morrell and Oleksandr Gvozdyk.
Bivol: vulnerable to pressure
In contrast, Bivol, 34, showed vulnerability to pressure in his two fights against Artur Beeterbiev. Although he won the resale with Beterbiev last February, he seemed to be ruining in the early and late rounds when he was subjected to non -stop pressure.
Smith would do the same with Bivol (24-1, 12 kos), but he would not leave the way Beterbiev did in the second half. It would continue to push Dmitry strong, wearing it with a hard punch. If you are Smith, this would be the best direction. Fighting Benavidez would be a bad idea.
“I think there is potential for this struggle. Callum must weigh now, defending that interim world title (heavy light wbo) or fighting David Benavidez,” said Eddie Hearn a Boxing news When asked about a possible struggle between Callum Smith and David Benavidez.
This is a hard decision, Smith has had. He has the fight with Benavidez and the good day of payment if he wants, but his chances of winning would not be good. Unless the money is out of this world, the winner of the Bivol vs Trilogy should wait. Beterbiev III.
“The key to Callum is to become a world champion of two divisions. It is a very difficult job because you have David Benavidez and Dmitry Bivol. There are no easy touches, and he knows it. He had a great struggle with Buatsi for the last time and will make a decision for the next two weeks,” said Hearn.
